Do I need cash

Leaving on Caribbean Princess this Saturday? Do I need cash for drinks, etc. etc. or is everything charged to my room account. If so, how much should I bring? Is it a good idea to give the room steward a huge tip at the beginning of the week so they'll treat you better? Thanks.

You do not need cash for your drinks, etc. You might like to take some $1 for extra tips. Some people do this. Most don't.

We have tipped the steward extra to start out with when we have special requests. We have had excellent service when we have not tipped at the beginning. I think a good steward will be a good steward either way.

Have a wonderful cruise. Our daughter is doing that cruise in November.

You should only need cash for the casino, in port activities. But credit works just as good. It's always a good idea to notify your bank or credit card company you are on a cruise as well. I have had clients whose cards get "alerted" because of unusual activity and odd location charges.

Tip your steward and waiters on the last night, it's tradition. The service should not even be an issue.

i have never tipped a person on any of my cruises BEFORE service was rendered. Always had great service. Cant imgine it being any better if I paid upfront.

Tip room service as serive is rendered as you may not get the same server twice.

If I get the same bartender over and over I will tip a buck after a drink or two.

Porters at the pier get a buck a bag. Taxi drivers will get a tip.

You don't need cash on board but may need it before & after the cruise & on some islands / in port. I usually bring about $200 in cash -- remember to get smaller bills to tip stevedores, taxi drivers, tour guides etc.

Enjoy.

If you have room service you should tip the person that brings the meal. Everything you purchase on board will be charged to your sign and sale card so you do not need to carry anything but you SS card around on the ship. When you go on your excursions you will of course need money for taxis (if you haven't booked an excursion through the ship or other venue) drinks, food etc. But everything on the ship that you purchase goes on your sign and sail card.
