IF people are thinking that the pax could have been off loaded from one ship, then loaded to another by lifeboat, it couln't have happenend. According to the report on the recent lifeboat accident, lifeboats are meant to be lowered with people but not meant to be raised back up with people. It was noted that a lifeboat should never have more than 2 people in it when being raised back up. They are one way boats.

Well Amercians do not need passports to fly from Mobile, Alabama do they? That is one of the 50 US states. Brucemuzz indicated 2000 people would be either be stuck on ship or in a foreign country because they did not have passports and those with passports would be taken care of by Carnival. How did their having passports make it any better for them than the other 2000 minus passports?

BTW I have a passport and agree we should have them. I am just saying he indicated false information.

If you'll re-read his post, he is talking about the passengers without passports being stuck on the Yucatan peninsula. As that is in Mexico (not one of the 50 US states) passports would have indeed been required for passengers to fly back to the US if the ship had been towed there.

By the time the tugs had reached the disabled ship the currents had carried it 90 miles IIRC. This meant taking the ship back to the US a logical choice. The tugs wouldn't have been fighting the current and it took care of the issue of passengers without passports. This was well discussed here - and on the news.

Even when things are going normally, one captain told us that in addition to 'plan A' he always has a plan B, C, D... in mind. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that in an situation like the Triumph faced, plans are always in flux.

btw - Saying someone has "indicated false information" is calling them a liar. Personal attacks are against board rules.

I wasn't suggesting they transfer all pax - only the ones who were the most fit and who had passports in order to give the best possible assistance to those who needed help the most. Or perhaps that's completely unreasonable...

Bottom line - The Coast Guard wouldn't allow it.
