Mariner - Wireless

Recommended Posts

Has anyone heard if the Mariner is up and running with wireless internet? If so what are the costs and what type of service are they providing. Emails? Browser? We are going on the Mariner from Auckland to Los Angeles this November and were told last year they were retrofitting the ship with wireless access.

Cheers

I called customer service to ask the same question. They were unsure and directed me to the main guy at home office. He was very pleased to tell me they are up and running and things are going very smooth. I cannot remember what type they use but he said there are many hotspots throughout the ship. Let's see if I can remember the prices he quoted me:

.75 per minute - pay as you go

$55 for 100 minutes

$100 for 250 minutes

He also mentioned you are only charged for the time you are on. I believe this means you can type your email and then are only charged for the time it takes to "send" it .

I am going on Mariner June 22, I will be glad to follow up with you after the cruise.

The price is rediculous and the service, from what I hear, clunky. Unless you find messages urgent and are on an expense account, there is an outfit called Seaport Cybercard in Juneau,Sitka,Skagway, and Ketchikan. I'm on with them now. $5.00 per hour on Broadband. They give you a card that you swipe in the computer. The unused minutes stay on the card and use can use them in any port. The locations are all supposed to be near the ship docks. I'm lovin' it.

BTW,they have wireless which they say you may be able to reach from the ship while in port
