JaneCT Posted March 3, 2013 #1 Share Posted March 3, 2013 I haven't cruised in 10 years but am looking to take my 8yo DD this Thanksgiving. I am considering both The Epic (NCL) out of NYC and The Explorer of the Seas (RCCL) out of NJ. Is one kids club better? I want to make sure she has a great time. Also, Any tips for single parents on board? Thanks so much, Jane
rebeccalouiseagain Posted March 3, 2013 #2 Share Posted March 3, 2013 Recently there was a post about the chaos on the NCL Epic over Thanksgiving week. I'd avoid that one. I've done Independence of the Seas but not Explorer. I think you will have fun on Royal and they do have an excellent youth program. My son liked it. Kerry's Girls Posted March 3, 2013 #3 Share Posted March 3, 2013 I'd go with RCCL because of the set dining (as opposed to NCL's open seating) and I'd request a large table. It's a nice way to get to know others. Cruising is a great way to go for an adult sailing alone with a child because there are so many opportunities to socialize - at meals in the MDR, joining games and acitivies and on excursions. Plus, joining your roll call. Also, be sure you bring proof that you're allowed to take your child out of the country (custody papers, birth certificate showing you're the only parent, etc. whatever your situation is). Have a great time. Best, Mia
karl_nj Posted March 4, 2013 #4 Share Posted March 4, 2013 The Epic doesn't sail out of NYC -- perhaps you mean the Breakway? That ship isn't in service yet.
JaneCT Posted March 4, 2013 Author #5 Share Posted March 4, 2013 It is the Norwegian Gem we're looking at. Perhaps back to my research? :)
