keith75 Posted March 5, 2013 #26 Share Posted March 5, 2013 For the cost of a typical Disney cruise, I would hope it is MILES better than Carnival. I agree. I can't believe how many people are shocked that you get double the service for double the price.
Cruzayear Posted March 5, 2013 #27 Share Posted March 5, 2013 Thank you for that summary! I have always been curious about a Disney cruise.
GordonD Posted March 5, 2013 #28 Share Posted March 5, 2013 What ever Disney does, they do right. But they cater to well off families, and once in a life time cruises. I love Disney and visit the WDW parks every few years. With my Kids almost "too" old, I doubt The Magic and I will ever meet.
kathy884 Posted March 5, 2013 #29 Share Posted March 5, 2013 DS (17) has always wanted to do a Disney cruise. My observations though are that the price differential between Disney and lines like Carnival aren't as great when kids are in school. But when school is out the premium for Disney is huge. We did a five day Carnival Cruise in August up to Canada St. John and Halifax. Disney had the very same five day cruise in terms of ports, etc. leaving one day later. (I know it's not an apples to apples comparison at all), but FYI for a midship balcony room that would accomodate three of us, Disney's price had a 115% premium (was more than double Carnivals). I've heard their ships are beautiful, etc. The bottom line, though, is that Disney (as much as I'd love to do it) just sounds way too expensive for us. Tough to pay that especially given that DH is not a Disney fan and would also prefer to have a casino on the ship, and that DS is not a little kid. I got a kick out of the poster that said he'd rent a house in Hawaii instead. Quite interesting to me, as for DS's high school graduation we decided to do something a little more extravagant than our normal vacations. I looked at doing Royal Carribean's Oasis or Allure of the Seas (balcony room). Boy was that high. For the same money, actually less, we are renting a house on the beach in Kauai and staying there for a week (We actually have 14 of us going). (Including air, excursion / tours), food, accomodations, adding in rental cars, etc. for Hawaii, it was wild how the price for these two entirely different trips was so close). / So next year it sounds like maybe over spring break we'll do a Carnival cruise (modest budget) and then our Kauai land trip in June (spending a little more than we usually do on a typical spring break or summer vacation, mostly due to high airfares). MrPete Posted March 5, 2013 #30 Share Posted March 5, 2013 Soon as my kids got over 10, I hope to never see anything Disney again. Glad you had fun, but you couldn't give me a Disney cruise. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2 Have you been on a Disney cruise?
MrPete Posted March 5, 2013 #31 Share Posted March 5, 2013 For the cost of a typical Disney cruise, I would hope it is MILES better than Carnival. If cost is a concern, consider changing the time you cruise. We went in September and March, and paid the same as we would have paid on CCL during the time we normally cruised. Everyone should experience a Disney cruise once.
Rare crewsweeper Posted March 5, 2013 #32 Share Posted March 5, 2013 If we could afford to pay the cost of a Disney cruise, I'd look at sailing on Celebrity or Crystal. Less children, teens and members of the college drinking teams on board the better. We can't afford them (or DW balks at the price point) so we'll stick with Carnival, (hog)warts and all.
