Considering a cruise in/out of Jax. How far is airport from port? Where to stay pre/post? What to do? How far is Jax from Savannah?

Port is a 15-20 minute cab ride from the JAX airport. The drive from JAX to Savannah is about 2 hours straight up I-95. JAX is a long way from the beach -- we like to stay in Mayport FL or Jacksonville Beach. Good luck!:)

Here's another suggestion......we like to stay at Fernandina Beach which is about 20 min from the port. We stay at the Hampton Inn which is right downtown and within walking distance to many shops, restaurants and bars. Very neat little town and you never have to move your car.

Parts of Jax are a long way from the beach. Other parts are literally just over the intercostal from Jax Beach, less than 5 miles from the sand. It's a huge city, so knowing which area you want makes all the difference. I would stay either downtown or at the beach, or maybe even down in St. Augustine if you can rent a car and take a day extra. Airport hotels will be fine, but typical airport hotels. Avoid the northwest quadrant of the city, safety gets questionable in that neck of the woods.
