Yes, there is one in Charlotte Amalie. $7 each way, slightly longer ride, but you get a great view of the coastline.

We went from Red Hook over and to Charlotte Amalie back. I would do both ways from CA next time. For one, almost all the taxis at the pier are shuttle buses. They will not leave until full and often have many stops. We had to walk halfway to town just to get a taxi to take us direct. It's much easier to get a taxi to/from town (or take the free shopping shuttle) for the CA ferry dock. Our driver was great. He suggested the longer ferry back because afternoon traffic is so bad across the island. The coastline views were fabulous.

True story: The last St. John to CA ferry takes many workers back to St. Thomas and stops at Red Hook. On our trip the only pax left after that were from the cruise ships. Several were from Carnival and were frantic about missing the sailing (an hour before ours). So the ferry captain took us to the foot of the cruise ship pier. There is no landing so the ferry was about 4 to 5 feet below the pier. We stepped up on a tire bumper and were hoisted by crew onto the pier. It was a riot. DH and I loved it--talk about door-to-door service! We tipped the crew generously just for the entertainment value.

Take the CA ferry. It's $14 p/p roundtrip. The total time is about the same. It cost us less than the taxi and Red Hook ferry. It's a beautiful ride.
