HI there, we will be cruising with Royal out of Pan Am Pier Feb 2014 and booking hotel on points.

Here are the hotels we have to choose from:

Best Western Condado

Sheraton Old San Juan

Sheraton Puerto Rico Convention Centre

Four Points by Sheraton Caguas Real Hotel & Casino

Which hotels are near restaurants? Are any near the beach?

Any recommendations? Thanks

Condado is it's own area- some good places, some empty places. IMHO the best restaurant is Budatai- it's really good food. Cheap taxi to Old San Juan. There are a few beaches- but the hotel would best to ask.

Old San Juan has a TON of restaurants to choose from. Too many to give a top. No beach. We've been at the Sheraton a few times and like it.

Convention Center is a new area. Outside of going through there, no idea what is there.

Caguas is a long way away- don't bother if you are cruising.

So it depends on if you want a beach or a lot of restaurant choices. Either way, there are a lot of hotel choices as well.

We are renting Caleta64, right in the heart of Old San Juan on a safe street. The free trolley is great for sight seeing in OSJ (done it last year). Caleta64 has much more room than a hotel, full kitchen, and you can feel like one of the locals. We are staying here in November. Just thought I'd add one more option in the mix, if you might be interested. Oh, there are four apartments here, cost less than a hotel.

Book at the Best Western Plus Condado Palm Inn and Suites.

98.10 for the night, includes free breakfast and wi-fi. Across the street from the Marriott, so you have all of their restaurants, casino, beach, etc to go to.

Oh, and Walgreens/Starbucks are across the street, along with about 15 other restaurants.

Best part? It just opened!

We booked for our cruise in October, look for the "Manager Special"

Hope this helps!

I temporarily booked the Best Western - but the managers special for when we are going was $134 with taxes it comes to $179.

Sheraton Old San Juan is saying you have to stay 2 nights on weekend - I am asking them for an exception as I have read on this site that they have done an exception for a pre-cruiser before.

Can you please tell me what restaurants are within walking distance of the Best Western?

Thank you,

Best Western at 179 is still a good deal. This includes the resort fee that all the hotels are now charging (between 15-20 percent of hotel price).

I looked at the Sheraton by the pier, they wanted 500 a night pre-cruise night.

I actually have 2 hotels booked for my precruise in January 2014. The Best Western and The Comfort Inn. I got a AAA rate for the Best Western and a really great Government Employee Rate for The Comfort Inn. I need 2 rooms so staying at the Comfort Inn saves me $86 and both come with breakfast.

Has anyone stayed at both that can give me some input? Both get decent reviews but there are more reviews on the Best Western and being a newer hotel makes me wonder if I should just pay the extra money. Part of me says, its only for one night so why bother? Anyone? Help please :)
