Question about name on cruise reservation

Recommended Posts

I am going to sailing Allure in May and am about to check in online. My fiance's name legally (and on his passport) looks like John J. Doe III. On our reservation, it just looks like John Doe.

I called Royal Caribbean yesterday and they told me that I needed to have my travel agent change it to say John J. Doe III. My travel agent just e-mailed me saying she called Royal Caribbean saying that it is fine to just say John Doe and I just need to add in the middle initial. Which version is correct? I don't want to be denied boarding due to something as simple as this. I'm starting to get very nervous.

Thanks!

To be safe I would say the name on the reservation needs to be the same as the identification he will be using. Shouldn't be a big deal for the TA or RCI as it is only a couple of key strokes.

My travel agent isn't going to change it. She said she called them and as long as I put it as John J. Doe it should be fine. I don't understand why they just won't change it for me. RCI wouldn't change it because I booked through a travel agent.

If your travel agent won't do something as simple as change the name then I would never use that travel agent again. You are the customer! With that said, I would call back and try to get the travel agent to change it or try speaking with someone else at Royal.

I would imform the TA that you are the customer, and you want the name changed to match the identification, or this will be the last trip you plan with them. Lots of fish in the sea to do bookings with.

I would recommend you get it changed:

People have been denied boarding for similar issues.

Now you could be lucky but why should you have to take the chance. There is plenty of time to get this corrected.

Have your TA conference you in with RCCL directly.

If for some reason your TA wont budge, ask for the Manager of that specific TA and keep esclating. It could be your holiday that is ruined not theirs.

I have had to make changes myself when booking for friends. It took less than 2 mins for the actual change. I was fortunate to have booked directly with RCCl.

From my upcoming Cruise docs. – page 6

Please Note:

The name on your cruise line or air line reservation (if applicable) must match the name on your valid passport book or other identification documents.Guests who do not possess the proper documentation may be prevented from boarding their flight or ship or from entering a country and may be subject to fines. No refunds will be given to individuals who fail to bring the proper documentation.

Good luck

Even though we always book with our middle names when we receive the booking confirmation from RCI it never contains our middle names. I called once and was told it was a system issue. When doing online check in make sure you use entire name so it tracks with the passport and all should be fine.

HI, I had the same problem with my son's reservation - he is also III.

TA said it didn't need to be changed but RCI said it did. I told TA to change it --> They did but changed it to Iii. But at least it matches the passport.

How will TA make it right if your fiance is denied boarding? Why should you have to worry about it?

Tell TA to change it or you'll change TA.

Thanks everyone. It turns out that both my TA and myself were given incorrect information.

Finally got the situation figured out. You technically don't need the suffix with the last name according to the resolution specialist at RCI. I did get it added for safety, however. She did not know that it could be changed. In fact, the reps I spoke with didn't even know the rule that you didn't need the suffix. You'd think they would know these things.
