msmillie Posted April 9, 2013 #1 Share Posted April 9, 2013 The crew has pulled up anchor off the Amalfi Coast. Let me bring you up-to-date. It all started in the Constellation Theatre, the destination staff was wonderful and worked with all passengers in a friendly and orderly way. They first called for any passenger who wanted to have an opportunity to go on an excursion standby list, then they called up those passengers who wanted to visit Amalfi on their own and finally called the first ticketed passengers to pick up their bus numbers. Then there was an announcement that some passengers had rushed to the tenders without being called and that it made for unsafe conditions as the water was a "little bumpy" and to stay in the Constellation Theatre until our number was called. That was our first clue. The staff was patient and the passengers polite. We were then told that we needed to be very careful boarding the tenders, keeping both hands free and follow the directions of the tender crew. It wasn't long until Captain Stan came on the loud speaker and announced that the swells were high, it is unfortunate but he had no choice but to cancel all excursions. Although, passengers may have been disappointed, they seemed to look forward to a sea day. We are now on our way to Taormina and we will pass the Stromboli volcano tonight. OrpingtonT Posted April 9, 2013 #2 Share Posted April 9, 2013 Although it is good to hear from you on Mariner, it must have been so disappointing to have missed out on your excursion to that beautiful part of the world.
msmillie Posted April 9, 2013 Author #3 Share Posted April 9, 2013 oops! The cruise is Barcelona to Venice, we did Rome yesterday. Passengers were definitely disappointed about the port cancellation but the staff and crew provided a variety of additional activities to entertain us including a blind wine tasting by Daniela, Head Sommelier. Yesterday in Rome the crew welcomed passengers on board with formally dressed crew, band and food as passengers exited the bus. The air in Coffee Connection is now just fine.
