hova Posted April 9, 2013 #1 Share Posted April 9, 2013 Just wondering if we will see any offshore Oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico during our upcoming Conquest cruise? thanks hova....
Galveston Cruiser Posted April 9, 2013 #2 Share Posted April 9, 2013 You will probably sail through "rig alley" at night when returning to port. Pretty awesome as they look like mini cities all lit up.
panoramaofthepast Posted April 10, 2013 #3 Share Posted April 10, 2013 Just wondering if we will see any offshore Oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico during our upcoming Conquest cruise? thanks hova.... You will see them as you return, all lit up. They mark your path back to Galveston!
WLHyatt Posted April 10, 2013 #4 Share Posted April 10, 2013 If you stay up you'll see them on the way out as well. We studied the lower end of the river for a long time before we sailed last time so we could get an idea of the places along the river to help us gauge the distance passed and we were especially happy to see the Pilot boat meet up once we were out in the gulf and know that we were well on our way. Mxlady Posted April 16, 2013 #8 Share Posted April 16, 2013 You can see what the lights are if you take binoculars. We have a nice small set we take.
rvsullivan Posted April 16, 2013 #9 Share Posted April 16, 2013 When cruising out of NO you will see plenty of rigs on the way out as it gets dark. Certainly on your way back since you will transit mostly in the dark. There are literally hundreds of rigs at the mouth of the Mississippi. maldenmusic Posted April 24, 2013 #10 Share Posted April 24, 2013 Yes after you get out of the MS river you will see tons of them. And once you start seeing them on your return trip, you know your cruise is getting ready to end :( The cruise down the MS river is also great fun in my opinion!
