Hotel or Bed & Breakfast in Dover

There doesn't seem to be a lot in Dover. Since we are just going to spend the night transfering from Heathrow the day before a departure on the RSSC Voyager in August, we're trying the Best Western Churchill Hotel (75 GBP for 2) which is conveniently located near the waterfront/cruise port in Dover. Depending when your cruise is, we can provide a review after early September when we return.

We've stayed at East Lee Guest House twice prior to cruises. I can't compare the comfort between that and staying at the Churchill, but I can tell you that the owners are delightful which is one of the reasons we went back.

Dover is very walkable and there are some very nice restaurants easily reached from either location.

We found the Castle very interesting, especially the WW II tunnels and the view of the harbor from that vantage point is spectacular. Also, you might want to visit Canterbury while you're in the area.

If you opt for The Churchill Hotel I recommend going for one of their Superior Executive Rooms overlooking the sea. These were all refurbished about a year ago. If you go for a standard room it is always a good idea to request a sea view. The hotel seems to do a lot of special deals depending on occupancy rates so be prepared to bargain!

The Churchill is a 3 star hotel and the best thing about it is its location on the seafront. It has a gym and a hairdresser (very good but book well in advance) and beautician. If you do not wish to dine in there is a good restaurant nearby called The Sea Breeze.
