Best Beach

Take a cab to 7 Mile Beach. Most are recommending the Courtyard Marriot (used to be the Holiday Inn). $10 to get in, includes chair and soft drink or water. When we were there we just told the cabbie to take us to the beach.

7 mile beach is the most popular. My favorite was down past 7mile at Cemetary Beach. Same white sand and blue water as 7mile but less crowded. No vendors or hotels on this beach the time I went so take any water with you and bug repellent for no see ums as you should at any caribbean beach.

I forgot to mention that snorkeling is good at cemetery beach. There are a few small coral heads near shore and a cemetery reef is a little farther out. Fosters (cayman grocery store) is nearby. I can't rememeber if it's just before the beach or not much after. I thinks it's a little after. You can pick up some things fairly cheap here like a jerk dinner with sides at the deli. Good for a great picnic on the beach. The more I think about it I think I might do this on our cruise Dec. 5th.

I read in a another post - DOES THE BUS GO TO "HELL" AND TURTLE FARM?? - that a public bus (yellow line), even to the west end turtle farm will cost less than 2 us dollars per person. This bus would have to go by cemetery beach. When I stayed in GC we were at the Spanish Bay Reef Resort at the west end but we never took the bus. The resort provided courtesy jeeps.

In regards to bus to cemetary beach, here is a thread on this board about bus service on Grand Cayman (one person paid $2.50 instead of $14.00 taxi fare! Of course it would depend how many people are in your party whether it would be a savings for you.

this site should give you an arial photo map of the fosters near cemetery beach. the home site also has locations and hours of the other fosters in GC. By the look of things Fosters is just over 400 yards to the entrance to cemetery beach. The narrow path from the road to the beach runs along the side of the cemetery nearest to fosters. The cemetery is that big white square near the number 5 in the arial photo.

PS -

The average annual wage in GC is probably as high or higher than it is in the US so it is not a poor country and does not have the same problems that other caribbean islands have. The roads are good though poorly marked and it is very clean and does not have the collection of shanty's that you might find on other islands. The people are a mix of ex slaves, pirates and europeans and are well educated and commercial orientated. GC is more closely tied to the US for culture and education than to Britain. I felt just as safe walking the streets in GC than I do at home in San Angelo. You will not have the hustlers and hawkers like you do in some islands. The people of GC tend to do their robbing in their tourist stores and shops and they leave you smiling when they do it.

thanks

uno mas ps

The grocery stores in GC do not sell beer, wine or liquor. This need to be purchased at a liquor store. The only thing that will be open in a grocery store on Sunday is the pharmacy if it has one but if it does you should be able to purchase sundries such as snacks and can goods.
