Solo Cruiser Female with baby - help with pre-cruise in Amsterdam

Hi everyone.

I will be taking a HAL cruise in August (2013) starting in Amsterdam for 28 days. I will be traveling by myself with my 21 month old baby girl. My hd does not like traveling and I'm "addicted" to cruises. So he is staying. Its my first time on a cruise by myself with the baby. I am a bit concerned/scared to say the least. Any recommendations/ suggestions???

Also, I have never visit Amsterdam before and I've heard is beautiful. I need to know what is the best/ safest area / hotel to stay at. It will be happy to stay at least a 4 star hotel. Also, how long should I stay? Im looking at least 3 days not including the day I get there and the day I get onboard the cruise.

One last thing, I am a chef.... any restaurant recommendations???

Thanks to all of you who take the time to answer.

Make sure you have a notarized letter from husband that you have permission to take the baby. (I know that is needed in the US but I would have it anyway.) Can't help with hotels and restaurants as I have always been on a tour in Amsterdam. I do suggest to everyone I know who goes to visit the Anne Frank house.

You likely can find more info on Amsterdam on the port of call board.

Hope you and your baby have a great cruise.

Hi I really appreciate your suggestion. It's true. We traveled with my hbd's kids with his former wife and we were asked for this letter.

Tks.
