If there is a place around the port you can hang out, there will be a few of us from the group I travel with going up and making a day of it. I have never been to nyc, so we will be heading that direction afterward.

I plan on going, and yes, there is a place for easy viewing. There is a small park at the end of the pier with a 9/11 Memorial with easy access. When Explorer is docked, her bow is right at the edge of the park, so you'll be right up close. When arriving at the pier by car, stay to the right after going around the curve at the end (cruise parking and terminal are to the left). There will be workers there flagging you to the left, but you can stay and go to the right. I imagine there may be a lot of people doing the same thing that day, so I wouldn't doubt it if they close off the park entrance at some point. I'd plan on getting there early.
