Carnival Dream 4/27-5/4/2013

Recommended Posts

Just returned from our cruise on the Dream. We had a wonderful time. Aside from the humidity everything was great. Loved the ship. Great food. Had a nice cabin steward and great MDR staff. The shows and comedians were good. Casino not so good. :(

Stayed at Port Canaveral, Country Inn and Suites the night before and Cocoa Beach, La Quinta on the day we disembarked. Both places were good and I would stay there again. We rented a one way rental from Dollar and that went smoothly. They shuttled us both ways coming and going from the port.

Although we received a call from Carnival the day prior stating not to arrive at the port prior to 1:30 we went early and were boarded by 11:30. This was my 10th cruise so check in and boarding was a breeze, however I don't think it would of been much of a wait if we had normal boarding.

FYI....Do Not fill your rental car with gas from the sun coast gas station, closest to the airport. Gas there was $5.95 a gallon and across the street was $5.49. We drove a few miles down the road to 7-11 and found it for $3.39 a gallon. What a difference.

Did the submarine excursion in Cozumel...DH, in-laws and I enjoyed it. They even give you a certificate at the end to show you have been on a submarine. In Belize we did the Mayan Ruin/Wallace river tour. It was a nice ride down the river, stopped at a small 'resort' for a break where you can purchase a meal and then off to the ruins. We had Merlene as our guide, she was great. We did our own thing in Mahogany Bay, took a taxi to the beach and hung out, swam and had some beers. Beach was beautiful. In Costa Maya we just disembarked and walked around the shopping area.

Loved our cruise and we were very glad that this cruise went off without a hitch since the last time we cruised with Carnival we were on the Splendor and it was when it caught fire in Nov.2010

Looking forward to our next cruise.

Thanks for the recap of your cruise. Wise choice on using the rental car and letting them take you to the port. CI&S didn't have thier first shuttle leave until 1PM, per DW. Also yes, good to check gas prices. That seems a bit of a gouge from SunCoast and RacTrak, the one next to the Radisson. There are a couple of stations near MCO that do the same thing, charge $1 to $2 more than competitors a short distance away. Grabbing rental car customers not wishing to pay even more to rental car company if gas tank isn't past the full mark.

BTW, humidity isn't Carnival's fault. You should try sailing in August:D.

Glad to hear Country Inn and Suites is a nice place to stay. I will be there in 3 weeks. Thanks for the trip review, and the gas note. We rented a car and I am printing out where to get gas on the way back! Also glad we rented the car as I have been hearing CI&S has been sending their shuttles later per Carnival sending out email requests for people not to come early. This is my platinum cruise and I want to be there early if there is ANY chance of me getting on early, I am going to take it! :D
