Open Passages

When I was on my cruise in February, I purchased an Open Passage. I am looking at booking our 2015 cruise on the Summit. I called our TA because their price was the best. When I told her I had an open passage, she said that because it was a "group rate" I had to make the full deposit and I could apply the $100 from the passage towards my deposit.

All my previous cruises were with Princess and when I bought a Future Cruise Credit I could use it for any cruise regardless of whether it was on sale or a group rate.

If I can only use this passage on full fare cost, what good is it?

You'll still get the onboard credit for the passages, so there is still some benefit from it.

I've seen this before on Celebrity bookings when I've booked onboard for the reduced deposit and then later transferred the booking to a TA with group space. You get the advantage of a lower fare (or increased OBC), but lose the reduced deposit. This has happened to us several times with different TAs.
