Macadian Posted May 12, 2013 #26 Share Posted May 12, 2013 Gee I don't know, maybe because it's the principle of the thing:eek: What a stupid comment! +1. Perhaps as it's such a 'paltry' sum he may wish to reimburse the OP?
mrclean1 Posted May 12, 2013 Author #27 Share Posted May 12, 2013 Oh, and btw, MrClean, I feel your pain. I do hope it all gets resolved in your favor. It may take a while but please post the outcome because this situation could affect any one of us. And I would be angry if it was ANY amount, let alone 400 dollars. Right is right and you are correct to pursue the issue. That doesn't even have to be said. I will definately post the results, but it may take some time to play out. After reviewing the helpful comments about disputing the CC charge I felt the best avenue would be through my own bank. They led me to believe that it was going to be an easy resolution, time will tell. I posted the issue here so that others would be aware. I still believe that it should have been handled on board, and I do take some responsibility for leaving the ship without a resolution, but circumstances would not allow me to do that. If I had a choice I would have stayed right there until it was resolved.

You might ask to see video footage of the trannsaction, errrr, lack of transaction?
WaldosPepper Posted May 12, 2013 #29 Share Posted May 12, 2013 This has to be the stupidest comment I have ever read. Are you actually serious? The OP is attempting to get HIS MONEY returned to him for something that was not his fault. It doesn't matter how much money he has, if he works hard penny pinching to go on a cruise or if he is a millionaire....What matters is it is HIS MONEY! To the OP I think you are headed in the correct direction with contacting your bank. I think you also need to contact NCL by letter and then follow it up with phone calls. Bother them, become a pest until you are refunded your money. You are not making to big of a deal out of this, it is a serious issue. I hope it all works out for you very soon! I agree on all counts. Very well stated rebuttal to the ignorance of the comment you quoted, as well. Thank you for doing so, because when I originally read it I was so angry I was unable to post politely, and therefore declined to post at all. Thanks! ;)

xenagurl Posted May 15, 2013 #31 Share Posted May 15, 2013 OP I just wanted to say that I'm really sorry that this happened to you. You have every right to be angry and I'd certainly be fuming and in no way would let it go. I hope that you get your money back and it's a lesson learned for me also. I'll stay away from ship ATMs.
rvsullivan Posted May 15, 2013 #32 Share Posted May 15, 2013 It's not just a ships ATM issue. I had a similar problem with a land based bank. It was not my home bank and suffered a power "glitch" while performing my transaction. It not only showed it had given me the cash, it also kept my card. The bank as a security measure opted to destroy my card and made me deal with my bank to finally get my money restored after about 10 days. My bank was very helpful, the other bank not so much!!! On the Star I was told by the staff that the ATM did not "belong" to NCL but was managed by the same contractor that runs the casino. It show NCL on the transactions so people can "remember" what the transaction was after they get home.
McDebbie Posted May 15, 2013 #33 Share Posted May 15, 2013 Thanks for posting the heads up. We have only ever used the ATM one time on a ship but will be careful if we ever have to do it again. Hope it all works out well for you.
Demonyte Posted May 17, 2013 #34 Share Posted May 17, 2013 Thanks for posting the heads up. We have only ever used the ATM one time on a ship but will be careful if we ever have to do it again. Hope it all works out well for you. As stated quite detailed in one of the previous answers, the ATM machines have very defferent levels of operation and this can happen pretty much everywhere where cheaper models are used (and that's a lot of ATMs!) - both on board and on shore. drsb Posted May 17, 2013 #36 Share Posted May 17, 2013 I hope you get your money back! I had tried to get money from an ATM at a Greek bank in Athens during a Med cruise, the screen said it had issued the money, but it hadn't. I freaked out! I asked the bank if I could use a phone to make a free call to my credit card to report it right away, but the bank manager said no and pointed me to a pay phone that didnt' work. In the end, it was all ok, becuase they were having a strike that day and all the phone and internet lines were down for a period, so even though the machine thought it gave me money, it never went through to my credit card. I think it was about $500. I didn't use the ship's ATM becuase I needed euro's and between the ATM fee and the foreign transaction fee to exchange the dollars to euros on the ship it would have cost me a lot of money! In general, I never understood why there was an ATM on a ship where they don't take cash :)
