Aloha!

Newbie to CruiseCritic here.

Roberts Hawaii offers a shuttle from HNL to the pier for $8:

  • Has anyone used this shuttle?
  • Any additional charges (tax, tip, etc.)?
  • Approx. how much would a cab charge for the same trip?

Considering Robert's Wailua River Cruise & Luau Combo for $135

  • Any additional charge (tax, tip, etc)?

Should I rent a car on Kauai or is there a ship-sponsored shuttle into "town"?

We don't plan to do much site seeing, but may want to have lunch/dinner in Lihue.

Robert's can take you to your hotel, from hotel to pier and from pier back to airport. We just got back a couple weeks ago and used Roberts for 2 of those three transfers, $8 each. Tipped $1 each for our 2 ginormous bags.

Roberts may/may not stop and pick up/drop off other passengers, depending.

We were located on Beachwalk, near one end of Waikiki so tended not to have much waiting for other stops. Reliable service.

Used a cab/van service for another transfer. Quoted price of $18 for 2 or 3, 1 large bag each. Shared van with another couple, additional stop made it same price x 2. Bonus? No other stops.

Random cabs charge in the area of $20 but you can eat charges for getting stuck in traffic as the meter is still running unless you agree to a flat rate ahead of time.

Tipping for bag handling is something we do for drivers and porters/bell staff on a routine basis. A few bucks goes a long way as far as the Aloha spirit so spread it around is our motto :D

Recent reviews of the Roberts excursion in Kauai you mentioned are good, with the luau food getting higher marks than the luau itself. Hard, metal bleacher type seating for the production show sounds uncomfortable at the very least.

Free shuttle takes you directly from Terminal 2 (where POA docks in Nawiliwili Harbor) to Harbor Village. You could walk to nearby (1/4 mile) resort, with a reliable eatery across the way: very good shave ice, local plate lunch, mahi and burgers. Other stops with more selection. Walk from the closest portion of Lihue with shopping center about 15 minutes. Hope that helps.

Mahalo KCFoxy !!!

Super, super.. info !!!

Appreciate all your "extras" (photos, maps, etc.).

Seems like the shuttle won't go all the way to "downtown" Lihue.

ie: County Building, Rice Street, etc.

A tad too far and dangerous traffic to walk.

A BIG Thank You once more !!!
