Ncl Wind - Need Advice On Excursions

We will be going on the Wind 10/15. Considering the following options:

 

Hilo - Helicopter Ride

Lahaina - Zipline, Road to Hana

Nawiliwili - Wailua River & the Fern Grotto

Kona -Horsebacking Riding

 

Can we do these execursions on our own or should we go with the ship. Which port should I go for the Helicopter Ride and the Zipline.

Most of these you can book on your own and save considerable money over the ship's excursions. Helicopter is debatable between Hilo (Volcano National Park and possibly Hamakua coastline) and Kauai (Na Pali coastline and waterfalls inland). Most people here seem to lean towards Kauai. I have no opinion regarding the zipline since I've never done one here.

Thanks for informing me that we could do the tours on our own instead of thru the ship tour. Could you advise me on the website on the details of these tours. Do you have any info as to whether the tour operator will provide transportation from pier. Sorry for asking you so many questions.

I would recommend doing a search in this forum on each of your topics - you'll find a boatload of posts from people that have done them in the past and their recommendations of companies. I haven't done these personally so can't make any personal recommendations (my last helicopter ride in Hawaii was on the Big Island by a company that no longer exists). :)
