How Far?

I am taking a cruise in July, and I was wondering if any one knew how far it was to travel from Progresso to Meridian. I was also wondering if it is worth paying for the snorking tours on the ships or just to snorkel on my own>

Merida is only 21 miles from Progreso. Bus service is reliable. From the Merida bus terminal turn right walk three blocks and you are in the central plaza in the middle of the historical area. Snorkling in Progreso is not good. It's the gulf so doesn't have the crystal clear water of the Caribbean.
