AOS Boarding Question? What Time Sunday?

Recommended Posts

The Adventures of the Seas Cruise I am going on (Oct 16th 2005) leaves port at 10pm on Sunday. When can I board? What is open? Do we have the normal Dining room seatings? When is the Muster Drill? Entertainment? Casino?

Thanks

We are sailing the week after you. I have been told you can board as early as 12 noon, but I would call RCL or your TA to check. As to the dining time, what time do you have early or late? The muster drill will be very soon after you leave the dock. Entertaiment I don't know. The casino will open after the ship is in international waters.

We didn't muster until the next day on the Southern caribbean, but that was in 1993. It was a long, long day! We are looking forward to our next Southern in 2007!

We just returned from a fantastic week on the Adventure. I think you can get on shortly after noon. We stayed late at our hotel and lounged by the pool, walked around downtown for awhile, and finally got to the ship about 5 pm. It was great, no lines whatsoever. The quickest and easiest embarkation ever.

Dining times were normal in the main dining room. We ate in the Windjammer. They said 40-60% of guests tend to miss main dining room the first night on these sailing that leave late.

I think it is a rule that you must complete muster drill before the ship ever leaves port. I think we mustered 8:15 or 8:30, somewhere in there.

Casinos and shops don't open until you are in international water.

ANy more questions, let me know.

We have a late seating. As for boarding. We will probably just have our luggage taken on board and walk arouind San Juan. Then board mid afternoon.

We will try to leave the ship in "ship-shape" for you.

Late seating is at 8:30pm.

Our plane is not arriving until after 4:15 PM so we will not be boarding till after 5 sometime.

Thanks for leaving the ship in ship-shape for us.

We were on the AOS in May. We were not able to board until shortly after 1:00. The previous weeks cruise did St Thomas first so all the people leaving the ship had to clear Immigration in San Juan. It took awhile. We arrived at the ship around 11:00 and ended up waiting. We were in a suite so were one of the first people onboard.

However, on our cruise we cleared immigration when we reached St Thomas on the last day of the cruise so our disembarkation was fairly quick.

The first night late seating was at 9:00 because of the muster drill

JimCradd is right. Second seating was 9:00 the first night due to muster. First seating was 6:00 as usual. I forgot that when I wrote my post. Since we din't usually do late seating, i really didn't notice. Don't want to confuse anyone. Jim is correct.

We are staying in San Juan the night before our cruise so we will just have our bags put on the ship and then hang out in Old San Juan etc till 5ish.

Don't know if we will do the official 9pm dinner after the muster, but whatever we do, it will be better than sitting in traffic in Los Angeles!!!

Best times to get to the pier: by 11amish or after 3. I say this because if you arrive after 11, around the noon hour, you will probably end up having to wait outside. We went last year on AOS and we got to pier around 10:30. They have chairs inside the reservation area. We grabbed chairs and I read a book. Helps pass the time and it was relaxing. Once those chairs fill up (approx. 200 or so), people have to wait outside in line and they close the check-in lines until they start boarding again. Some waited for over an hour. It's unpleasant waiting outside, standing in line in that humid, hot weather!

We boarded around 1pm. Others have reported arriving after 3 or 4 and not waiting long at all...walked right in.

Our muster drill was before first seating dinner...around 5pm, but that was last year. Things may have changed. I wondered about those people who arrived to the ship after 5 because it was entirely possible since the ship wasn't leaving until 10pm.

KJH has the plan! We sailed the AOS in February. We asked for a late check out at our hotel, started our vacation by the pool and headed to the ship around 2:00.

I really don't understand those that feel the need to get to the pier at 10:00 or 11:00 in the morning, especially when your docs state that boarding starts at 5:00!!! I know my chair by the pool was more comfortable than the famous "white chairs". I also know my "refreshments" were a little tastier!! :) :)

tvtd, since you are staying in OSJ, it would be best to have your hotel store your bags until you are ready to head to the ship. Adventure doesn't board at the docks downtown but at the Pan Am Pier, and it is about a $20 cab ride there.

We stayed at the Caribe Hilton. Got late check-out and had them store our bags. Lounged by the beautiful pool area and had a few frozen drinks to start our vacation. Then we took a cab downtown about 2:00 for a couple of hours. We picked up a cab, ran by the Hilton to get our bags, and the were dropped off at Pan Am Pier. Worked perfectly.

Well we have to wait until October!!!! :(

Yes we are staying at the Marriott the night before the cruise, so we will be hanging out the hotel and checking out Old San Juan until we can really check in at the dock. I'm going on vacation to relax not stand in lines.

Party on!

I just got back from the AOS sailing the Aruba itinerary and we had such a fabulous time! Since it was just myself and my fiance, we traveled light, so we were able to avoid the baggage claim at the San Juan Airport and checking in our bags for the ship too. We got to the port around 2 pm or so and maybe waited for 10 minutes max. I was pleasantly surprised with how smoothly embarkation went. We had the early seating, which was at 6:30. The rest of the nights dinner was at 6:00 pm. The muster drill took place shortly after, around 8:30 or so.

I think some people who get there as early as possible are eager to check out their seating in the dining room and make sure that everything is in order. I know we were concerned about this, since we had a specific seating request, and the maitre'd is stationed outside the dining room at 2 pm. I think the lines to speak with the maitre'd to resolve any seating issues can get long rather quickly.

Have fun on your trip! I am definitely still going through cruise withdrawal and wish I could be sailing again!
