Lavender fields of provence

My DH and I are going to be docked in Toulon Monday July 29th and I would love to see gorgeous lavender fields. We have spent a fair amount of money with group excursions on other ports and would like this day to be more relaxed, more DIY.

 

Any recommendations for a DIY day?

My quick answer is to rent a car and drive. Otherwise, you are stuck with either booking a cruise line excursion (some of us think this is a fate akin to death) or a private excursion. DW and I have spent a lot of time in Provence (we have even rented apartments) and love the freedom of having a car. But whether you are comfortable with doing you own thing is a very personal decision. And by the way...it has never been the lavender fields that made my day....but rather the Sunflower fields. I love how they all point the same direction :)

I believe bloom time is July/Aug,but you can Google this info..I wrote a peice on it months ago on the board.
