Hiking backpack

We have a Chicco hiking backpack that we love to carry our son in. He will be 18 months at cruise time and it seems like it would really come in handy. Would we be better off putting it in our checked luggage to get on the plane? Or should we carry him on the plane in it? I was thinking it would be good for my hubby to use it so both hands are free to help with luggage and getting our other daughter on the plane and ship. I also think it may be helpful going through buffet lines. Then when we take it off, it makes a nice little chair for him. Will people think we're idiots for wearing it?

Yes, some may say just let him walk. But, I know that is not the best thing for us. Any suggestions??

I plan on bringing my ergo carrier just in case. I figure it may be handy to have sometimes. Depending on the activity a carrier can be easier than a stroller.

An Ergo/BabyHawk Oh Snap will be a lot easier to deal with in the airport. You may have to gate check your carrier if it is one of the larger ones because it won't fit well in the overhead bin. It would take up a ton of space in your luggage.

 

PaxBaby.com (and others) rents good babycarriers that would fit in a large diaper bag. I would rent an Oh Snap or other SSC one from her before bringing a hiking carrier.
