Nliedel Posted June 28, 2005 #7 Share Posted June 28, 2005 It isn't patriotic to set the ship on fire. Seriously fire is one of the most frightening things to happen on a ship. It would be very dangerous. Celebrate before or after on land.

DreadPirateRobert Posted June 28, 2005 #10 Share Posted June 28, 2005 Buy patriotic t-shirts instead. Old Navy usually sells them for $5 to $10 bucks this time of year. You can't imagine how dangerous sparklers are and how freightening a fire aboard ship can be.
CardsRamsRock Posted June 28, 2005 #11 Share Posted June 28, 2005 I'll be sailing on the 4th, but out of the country :(. Can we bring patriotic sparklers on the ships? If your flying to your departure point you would likely never make your cruise. The "bomb sniffing" equipment is looking for similar chemicals, I'm pretty sure you would be in a lot of trouble for bringing them with you. But I'll assume your smarter than to try that.:)
glrounds Posted June 28, 2005 #12 Share Posted June 28, 2005 If your house catches on fire, you can stand in the front yard and watch the firemen try to put it out. If a ship catches on fire . . . . (well, I think you get the picture). Seriously, enjoy our Day of Independence, sing some patriotic songs, buy a serviceman/servicewoman on board a drink and thank them for their service. But leave the sparklers at home. :)

hstrybuf Posted June 29, 2005 #18 Share Posted June 29, 2005 Absolutely, positively NO! (As if you haven't figured that out by now.) I like glrounds suggestion. Buy a service person or a vet a drink!
WazAnOkie Posted June 29, 2005 #19 Share Posted June 29, 2005 Carnival needs to update their web page to include fireworks of any kind: http://www.carnival.com/CMS/FAQs/What_NOT_to_Pack.aspx I think the common one word answer so far is 'no'. Have a great cruise!!
dmfriedman Posted June 29, 2005 #20 Share Posted June 29, 2005 So while everyone repeats the same answer, let me offer another alternative -- I bring Glow Sticks on the ship. I share them with the crew on the last night -- it always turns into a fun atmosphere on my cruises -- the entire casino by midnight is glowing! This time of year you should be able to find glow sticks somewhere around town...

cruznon Posted June 29, 2005 #22 Share Posted June 29, 2005 Carnival will just need to say "No fireworks!" in the passenger booklet .
dmfriedman Posted June 29, 2005 #23 Share Posted June 29, 2005 Thats a great idea! It was actually a friend that turned me onto the idea when she was trying to find an alternative to fireworks for her developmentally disabled clients to enjoy during this holiday a few years ago. Now, I actually buy the glow sticks on eBay in "bulk" (you can get as few as 100, or as many as thousands -- I usually buy about 1000 at a time) and they're dirt cheap, as long as you watch what the particular seller is charging for shipping. They're great icebreakers, as everyone will want to be your friend if you have glow sticks :) I've even decorated for Christmas using red and green glow sticks in the window one night -- it may only last a few hours, but it's much easier to just pick 'em up and throw 'em away when you're done! On the cruise ships, although I do share them with pretty much anyone who asks, there are two groups of people I definitely try to share them with: the crew, who love to have fun any chance they get (and it's hard for their managers to say no when a passenger gives them all mickey mouse ears made out of glow sticks!), and kids who seem otherwise unamused by the dinners, bingo, or other activities (I do try to keep them out of the showroom most of the time so as not to distract anyone when the lights are low -- that being said I did bring a few glow-balls in to the midnight show last year and tossed one up to the performer, who was trying to figure out why I was glowing). Okay, sales pitch over. And I don't even sell the darn things! :)
