paumarier Posted July 17, 2013 #1 Share Posted July 17, 2013 Our Holland America itinerary has changed, we are no longer going to Egypt, and are now going to Limassol, Cyprus. I didn't find many recent threads for Cyprus and was hoping cruisers could suggest what to do there for the day. So far I've found Kourion, Paphos, and Kyrenia that sound interesting. Anything else we shouldn't miss? I'm specifically looking for a private guide for my husband and me. Any suggestions?
ROCruiser Posted July 17, 2013 #2 Share Posted July 17, 2013 We joined a group tour with CC members for our day in Cyprus and here is how our day went.
maryann ns Posted July 17, 2013 #3 Share Posted July 17, 2013 I have posted here before on Cyprus. Try doing a search. For sure you will want to get to Paphos. Go back to the Port of Call page for the Mediterranean and look to the right of the blue bar near the top of the page.

Anything else we shouldn't miss? I'm specifically looking for a private guide for my husband and me. Any suggestions? Kourion + Paphos is absolutely doable and a popular choice for people coming into Limassol. Kyrenia in a day would be a challenge; it's possible but there would be significant travel time compared to sight-seeing time. Mountain villages and wineries are possible and a nice option for those who have less interest in archaeology but want to get a feel for local scenery and culture. The other logical suggestion is Nicosia itself. It's essentially three cities in one: the modern town, the Greek Cypriot southern half and the Turkish Cypriot norther half. The old city is circled by massive Venetian-built walls and it's perfectly possible to start on one side and walk through to the other. Walking up Ledra Street (essentially due north) and crossing to the Turkish-occupied area brings you out at the beautiful old camel station (The Great Inn) which now has a restaurant in it.
