Hello everyone.

Has anyone taken the pre cruise tour to Cappadocia, flying in to Ankara and then flying between sites and then back to Istanbul to join the cruise? If so, how did you enjoy the tour, and how did you get on with transporting your luggage until you reached the ship?

Kind regards

Hi-- I have not been on this pre-tour but I did a pre-tour and post tour through Celebrity in May to the Canadian Rockies and Denali Park. It was tour--cruise--tour.

the pre-tour was not technically "escorted". We were on given vouchers and instructions on how to get from point A to point B etc and a phone number to call if problems were encountered. It turned out that our "tour" had 26 people all from my cruise. Unfortunately, from the very beginning when we arrived at the airport in Calgary to our arrival at the ship in Vancouver, there were many glitches and near misses. The company that handled all the arrangements for Celebrity did not do a good job. Celebrity heard from all of us loudly when we got onboard the Millie and we were all given some OBC as compensation. the post tour which was escorted was not much better because the Tour Guide was a newbie and it literally was his first day on the ob. We wound up directing him.

Sooooo- if you are not adventurous and able to quickly make your own plans and arrangements in case something goes wrong, you may want to re-think this.

Good luck

Many thanks Leesie:

The pre cruise tour into Cappadocia is advertised as escorted, so fingers crossed that we don't get your newbie as a tour guide!

This looks to be a relatively new trip for Celebrity, and we are looking at late September 2014, so hopefully any really bad glitches will have been ironed out. The cruise itinerary looks great with a Black Sea cruise and then into the Aegean before back to Istanbul

DH is insisting that I can only pack what I can carry myself!! so I'm going into training.

if it's escorted, I would take a chance because at least there is a guide, even if a newbie, to sort out problems. As far as packing, I couldn't believe it but my fantasy came true. We were going on a 6 day pre-cruise tour, 7 day cruise and 5 day post cruise tour. Believe it or not, we only used one 29" suitcase and a duffle shaped rolling carry on and 1 large tote bag!!! I was deliriously happy. It was so wonderful to have to deal with only 1 suitcase. We put one tote bag on the rolling suitcase and I only had to wheel the rolling duffle/tote bag.

My goal for our next cruise is to only have the suitcase and tote bag. The secret was knits that did not wrinkle and were lightweight.

Make it your challenge!!!!
