Costa Mediterranea: New extensive video review of the ship

Hello Everyone, Last month I had a week on the Costa Mediterranea, and have produced an extensive 1 hour and 7 minute video review of the ship, the video is here:

The video discusses the embarkation procedures at Rhodes, gives a thorough cabin review of a stateroom cabin on the 7th deck, and then starting at the top on deck 12 and working my way downwards, features every bar, restaurant, promenade, pool, amenity, sunbathing area, theatre, casino and more.

It also discusses food on board the ship, which overall was decent, albeit for some poor quality meat cuts in the main al la carte restaurant, and some disappointingly boring pizzas in the buffet.

The all-inclusive drinks package is also mentioned (definitely worth it), if you are going on this ship be warned, the first ‘Today’ newspaper delivered to your cabin states that all-inclusive drinks are only available from 12:00 to 00:00 – this was wrong, and they were available 24/7.

If you are thinking of going on this ship, have a watch of this video, and it will thoroughly prepare you for what to expect (unless of course you want to be surprised).

When I came on this forum a few months ago and asked about Costa Cruises, I was told to expect ‘organised chaos’, so I didn’t go with high hopes, but I have to say that I was very pleasantly surprised by this ship and Costa cruises. Based upon my experiences, I would use both again.

PS. Hope you appreciate my dry sense of humour.

Thanks for sharing.

You had the same English hostess we had on NeoR - Tammy - hope she has improved - she was absolutely useless when disasters struck - ie - our family stranded in amsterdam when the ship couldnt cross to Dover - and when the ships engines failed - she just hid - and hid - and hid some more.

She avoided everyone - and left so many families with no point of contact getting from amsterdam home on flights - it was sheer and utter chaos. Personally we werent due to leave the ship to amsterdam so we were fine, but the rest of our family had a nightmare on their hands and she did sweet nothing to assist...

Hope she learned some.....

We loved the ship - but back up when needed = nil points from this young lady...

Thanks for that. We are completely new to cruising - I am the apprehensive one -so it was useful to see there were coathangers and a socket and clothes line etc in the cabin. I am amazed by how big the ship looks. Unfortunately my wife seems to have seized up recently and it is not getting better. Do you have to use lots of stairs to get around? Still, end of October is a long way off!

Does a man need jacket and tie for any dinners?

We are infrequent smokers- never indoors. Did you notice if smoking was allowed on cabin balconies?

We are also sailing from Rhodes (to Marseille) - the weather looked good on the film, but then it always does.

Great video,really informative.

We sail on the mediterannea in October and on our paperwork it says anytime dining and we were wondering what exactly this meant?

We have sailed costa before and were early dining?

Maybe a silly question.

On the T/A last November there was only fixed dining, 2 seatings. Food was superb, but the meats were more European tough. Ship is gorgeous and immaculate. All crew, especially front desk very helpful. A little hard to get used to the hi-tec apprroach to everything but I guess that is the wave of the future.

GO you will not be disappointed!

There are usually two dining times on a cruise (I think it is a common methodology for most cruise liners). On Costa, I believe it is 7pm (19:00 hours) and 9pm (21:00 hours).

If you are on a Classic cabin, you don't get to choose which dining time you will have. Costa will choose it for you when you board the ship, and they will notify you when you board.

If you are on a Premium cabin, you get to choose which of the two dining times you want as part of the Web-Check In, prior to the cruise.

I havnt seen anytime dining advertised on a Costa cruise, so either it must mean that you can choose both the early and late time, as you wish, or that they will choose it for you.

Did you book a Classic or Premium cabin?
