Yes,I'm a Formans man also.

I see that the Pecheur is the house pour today

A day without peas is a day without peas.

I love that Pecheur. It is the current house wine. The Rioja Reserva 2008 Berberana arrived today. It was so heavily discounted that once the BA miles are taken into account, it appears that I am being paid £80'ish to drink 48 bottles of it,

Happy days!:)

Well done Jeff it's always nice to be paid to drink wine.

I have found a local restaurant that has a case of Lynch Bages 1989 being sold far too cheaply.

I've said that I will have the lot and drink it when I go there for dinners.

The saving will mean that dinner is free.

Of course it always is when I'm being hosted :D

You'll have to ration yourself with that ..... it has a lot of waiting left in it. Very envious.

Is that around £750 menu price normally?

Corney and Barrow have a case for £2750

Ive dealt for £150 a bottle in a restaurant

The restaurant served at table price should be £550 a pop at least

Seek and ye shall find

£150 seems around £80 under retail ....

I must admit whilst I'll pay to experience an Armagnac or Malt ... buying marked up restaurant priced rare wine I cannot do. Even if I were genuinely unlimited the East-end lad in me couldn't do it. There always seems to me that over a certain level of base price you have to spend there is little correlation between taste-pleasure and price. Prices at that level is obviously the product of rarity not anything much to do with the taste of it. To me there becomes an inverse relationship between the price and the pleasure ... as I'll find myself thinking I should be giving the cash to Mary's Meals or Sreepur Village or Reprieve rather than drinking it. We all have our issues!

I guess some of us can only go so far with our own self-indulgence. I'll spend anything on my twice weekly Ocado, and regular lobster and crab shipment from Cornwall though. I love adding value to ingredients ... although peasant food I think gives most pleasure.

Bung us a bottle guv!

:D

That's a remarkable price, below replacement cost based on quarterly global auction prices. Nice job!

The price is probably what was originally paid for the wine.

This particular restaurant has changed ownership and the new owner is not keen on old world wines as they do not fit exactly with his cuisine.

He is selling off some wine so that he can reinvest in new stock that will shift quickly.

So we both win but I think that I have come off better ;)
