harbormaster Posted July 3, 2005 #1 Share Posted July 3, 2005 Hi can someone give us some help? We are returning to Fort Lauderdale in November from a transatlantic cruise. We need to book a rental car for a few days and hertz says it has a location in Port Everglades. Apparently the ship docks in Port Everglades too. Does anyone know if the car rental agency is near the dock, or do we need to cab it to the car place? Does hertz have a shuttle to the ship by any chance. Sorry to be so ignorant, but would like to avoid a big hassle when we disembark. Thanks much.
Rare sunluva7 Posted July 4, 2005 #2 Share Posted July 4, 2005 All the major rental companies have shuttles from Port Everglades to their rental sites, which are just minutes away. They regularly circle the Port, so when you disembark, you can either call Hertz or just wave the shuttle down when they come by.

Be sure to call Hertz when you get off the ship - they will take you whether you call or not, but they prefer you call.
CanTex Posted July 4, 2005 #4 Share Posted July 4, 2005 Most of the major rental companies moved to the single on-airport Rental Car Center in January. Are you sure they still have the free shuttles to the cruise terminals? Last Jan., National / Alamo were in the process of moving to the new rental car center but they still had their free shuttle at their old off-airport location. Now I'm not sure, and we had hoped to take advantage of this again in Sept. for our cruise on Princess.

We have a vehicle reserved from the airport location in August and now wonder if we'll have to taxi over to the rental site. I'll let you know what I find out. MizzouMary Posted July 12, 2005 #6 Share Posted July 12, 2005 Hi. I called Alamo and was told they do not offer a shuttle to the cruise port any longer. They said the FLL airport offers a free shuttle to and from the Port Everglades cruise port.
Rare sunluva7 Posted July 13, 2005 #7 Share Posted July 13, 2005 In the case of Hertz, I called them and they said the airport location does not offer shuttle service to the port. In my case, I need to rent a vehicle post-cruise. The Hertz shuttle does pick up at the port and take you to their Downtown location to get the car. TrentS Posted July 13, 2005 #8 Share Posted July 13, 2005 Port Everglades and FLL are adjacent. The rental cars are all located in the new "Car Rental Center", which is a large parking garage in the middle of the airport terminals. The individual rental car companies no longer have their own shuttle vans, but the airport does. Personally I would just grab a taxi as it's only a few dollars and far more convenient!
