Avoiding the steps in Villefranche

I understand that to get to the main part of the town from the port, you have to climb steps. Is there any other way of doing it in a wheelchair apart from a taxi - a longer flatter route perhaps?

There is not going to be any real flat route since the port is at the lowest point of the town. But it is possible to get uphill by simply using the sidewalks and/or streets. But with a chair be prepared to do some uphill pushing.
