Izmir to Ephesus by Train

Recommended Posts

NCL Spirit gets in at 7:00 in Izmir. There is a train to Ephesus (Selcuk) at 7:45. The return train gets in to Izmir at 12:45. All aboard is 1:30. Does this allow enough time to get from the port to the train station on the way there and the way back? The train is so reasonable, would be great if it works.

Not sure we would do this with that type of time frame unless it is not a problem to catch your ship the following day. You are putting a lot of faith in your return train being on time. And you will have no more then 2 hours (at the most) at the ruins which is really pushing things. You are also assuming that you will be able to get quickly off your ship..which under normal circumstances would take a minimum of 15 min after docking (and 30 min is more the norm).

You also will need to ascertain that you have a taxi waiting for you at the exit from Ephesus (the entrance and exit are not normally the same place) since its quite possible you would leave the ruins to find no waiting taxis.

DW and I are crazy enough to try something like this....but would only do it if we had a good "Plan B" to catch up to the ship the following day. And if your ship is in Istanbul that day, you will find that its not so easy to get between Izmir and Istanbul by train and might have to fly.
