south-carolinagirl Posted September 19, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 19, 2013 We are in a 4J on Sunshine, so our room window will be facing the "secret deck", can we ask our steward for chairs to put out there? I saw some on a you tube video and was wondering if someone put them there because I have never seen them out there before, TIA
Mistyhon Posted September 19, 2013 #2 Share Posted September 19, 2013 On the Breeze they had many of them stacked up and strapped down on the front decks already. Just remove the rope and take one down?
AMisplacedCNuck Posted September 19, 2013 #3 Share Posted September 19, 2013 We were on the Destiny (the pre-Sunshine, if you like) last December. There were wooden storage benches on the front decks, but no chairs. We were told that it was too windy and they blew around too much when we asked about it. That may have been seasonal though. tattoos Posted September 20, 2013 #4 Share Posted September 20, 2013 We sailed one year in a 4J on the Liberty and our Room Steward informed us that no chairs were allowed on that secret deck. We used to go out and sit on the bench.
south-carolinagirl Posted September 20, 2013 Author #5 Share Posted September 20, 2013 Thanks everyone! We saw the benches on our last two cruises, but saw a video on YouTube that showed the blue balcony chairs out there so I was curious.
n6uqqq Posted September 20, 2013 #6 Share Posted September 20, 2013 (edited) The secret decks tend to be very windy. You won't want to stay out too long and surely not read a book ;) . IF you want to get an 80's poofy hairdo that is the place to go! Edited September 20, 2013 by n6uqqq
kingoftheicedragons Posted September 20, 2013 #7 Share Posted September 20, 2013 My experience with the secret deck is that the presence of chairs seems related to the size of the deck. There were chairs on the Victory but not on the Fascination because there just wouldn't have been room. Can't comment on Sunshine yet because we are yet to sail. lablover61 Posted September 20, 2013 #8 Share Posted September 20, 2013 We had a 4J on the Triumph and the wind varied from nasty to unbearable. There were some pool loungers on the deck , but hardly ever used because of the wind.

You mentioned you had that cabin, but not sure which deck you were on. I suppose if there were some on one of the decks, I could bring one up/down the stairs? DaveRRT Posted November 11, 2013 #10 Share Posted November 11, 2013 19 knots forward speed into a 15 knot wind makes for a lot of knots. Better hold your hat
seannyice81 Posted November 11, 2013 #11 Share Posted November 11, 2013 The only times I've read about deck chairs being on the "secret decks" were instances were guests themselves took the chairs out there. I suppose there might have been other instances though. I'm sure the winds make it an issue while underway.

BSQ Posted November 11, 2013 #13 Share Posted November 11, 2013 first time in a 4J on deck 10 of the Liberty, there were some sun loungers and a couple of chairs stacked against the wall. A year later same ship and deck, there were none. Kind of a bust since I really enjoyed the first time having my own personal serenity deck. :)
Colorado Kat Posted November 11, 2013 #14 Share Posted November 11, 2013 I've never seen deck chairs outside on the forward secret decks.

Hi ruthless, If they were on one of the front decks, I was supposing that at that point, which deck wasn't an issue. In theory. In actuality, if I found out that there were none, I am debating bringing two of my umbrella style fold up chairs that I typically take to the beach. In which case, of course, I can bring them to and from my cabin myself. I've always liked going out on the front decks and so I'm really looking forward to this cabin, just checking the chair situation. I like to be prepared and since 2001 I've been getting great tips and info on cruise critic from all my fellow cruisers! thanks for your input, L Jane
