Restaurant Recommendation for Southampton

Not sure if this should be posted in this section (if it's to be somewhere else on the forum I'm sure it will be moved!!!)

We are flying in the day before our cruise in October out of Southampton and we are looking for a restaurant recommendation. Staying near the West Quay mall so something local would be preferred but willing to take a taxi elsewhere if the restaurant is fabulous!!! (Just not outside of Southampton!!)

Thanks in advance.

Just walk into town, fabulous Chinese Restaurant above Nationwide Building Society, Wetherspoons do good value meals (best one, walk little way past IO.W. ferry terminal), there really are too many to call, Greek and Indian are good too. Head for Oxford Street where there are lots of more exclusive eateries OR Kuti's a lovely Thai Restaurant on the Old Pier near Isle of Wight ferry terminal.

We've eaten at a variety of places in that area...We usually stay at the Holiday Inn on Herbert Walker (right next to the pier--can't get any closer) and usually turn in our hired car on arrival, so we keep to walking distance...

I'm not a big fan of Wetherspoons--except for cheap, noisy, no service burgers and beer--though, sometimes that's okay...

We've eaten in a number of places in the West Quay Mall...like the Harry Ramsden's Fish and Chips--which is pretty good for chain Fish and Chips...They also have the usual assortment of fast food and crowded noisy sit down places in and around the food court...

Last visit, we ate at Frankie and Benny's--an Italian Chain eatery--across the highway from the mall near the multiplex theaters...We were NOT impressed...

One visit, we met others from our cruise and walked over to La Margherita--an Italian place on the Waterfront, the other side of the Holiday Inn from the mall on Town Quay...had a fairly enjoyable meal there...

If you walk into the old city, there are a number of local places in which to eat there...most along High Street...This area gives you a little more authentic look at Old Southampton rather than the sterile mall and dock area...Nice walk...
