Hawaiian Mongoose Posted September 19, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 19, 2013 Has anyone done the Princess tour from Dublin called "Dublin & Glendalough"? If you have, did the tour actually go to Avoca Village, (where the BBC series Ballykissangel was filmed). Are there other non ship tours to go to Avoca Village? Thanks in advance. Posaune Posted September 19, 2013 #2 Share Posted September 19, 2013 We went on this tour August 7, 2013. It starts with a narrated drive through Dublin and a visit to Christchurch Cathedral enroute to County Wicklow. Lunch was at Woodenbridge Hotel and Lodge in the vale of Avoca. then there was a visit to Avoca Village and Hand Weavers. Then we headed on to Glendalough for an extended visit and then back to the ship.
Hawaiian Mongoose Posted September 20, 2013 Author #3 Share Posted September 20, 2013 Thanks for your quick reply. For some reason seeing Avoca is nearly as important as seeing my ancestral home in Kerry. Do you remember if there was time for a photo op in Avoca village? I would really like to see the scene with the river, bridge and town that opened the TV series. I tried to upload and attach/paste a photo of the view I refer to. I hope that it shows up. I used it as screensaver/wallpaper for years. Thanks again for your insight. Posaune Posted September 20, 2013 #4 Share Posted September 20, 2013 Other than the stop at the weaving mill and the restaurant there was no stop. I took a quick photo of Fitzgerald's as we rode through town.
Hawaiian Mongoose Posted September 20, 2013 Author #5 Share Posted September 20, 2013 That's what I was afraid of, a "drive by" photo op! Thanks. We will have to visit Avoca another way at another time.
