crazy4cruisn Posted July 7, 2005 #1 Share Posted July 7, 2005 Our flight home from Amsterdam is at 11:30 am; we are concerned about having enought time to get to the airport and through customs and security after disembarkation. We would appreciate information from returning cruisers on this situation.
KINGBOBOFTHENORTH Posted July 7, 2005 #2 Share Posted July 7, 2005 What ship are you returning to Amsterdam on and what is it's scheduled arrival time? Are you docking at the cruise terminal in downtown Amsterdam? This info will help me answer your questions. BobK/Orlando
Ready4cruz'n Posted July 7, 2005 #3 Share Posted July 7, 2005 Hi, We were able to disembark ~7:15 AM on 6/26. Several days into the cruise, Celebrity will give you a form to fill out with the specifics of your post-cruise travel arrangements. With this info, you will get an early (or appropriate) disembarkation time, in order to make your flight. We actually stayed an extra day at an airport hotel, concerned that there might have been some delays in making our flight. But we were off the ship and checked into our airport hotel by 8 AM! We were happy to spend a great day in Zaanse Schans, before departing the following day. Hope this helps ...
crazy4cruisn Posted July 7, 2005 Author #4 Share Posted July 7, 2005 We are supposed to dock in central Amsterdam Aug 1 at 7:00 am on Celebrity Century. Thanks for the help.
Ine Posted July 7, 2005 #5 Share Posted July 7, 2005 The general advice at the airport is to be there at least 2 hours, but better 3 hours before departure due to long lines in checkin and all security after that.
whenzuc Posted July 12, 2005 #6 Share Posted July 12, 2005 we only changed planes in amsterdam- but it is an extremely busy and a very sprawling and large airport - and we are used ny airports- it took us almost 20 minutes- walking very quickly to get to our gate from the gate that we landed in. leave yourselves time. there are a lot of people walking around so it is hard to manuever quickly. Ine Posted July 12, 2005 #7 Share Posted July 12, 2005 Changing planes in Ams is different than checking in, because you have to pass security and wait at checkin counters. Depending on the airline there are some checkin-machines, which might make it a little faster. But it is highseaon at the airport, so you need time. mycruz Posted July 20, 2005 #8 Share Posted July 20, 2005 We had a 7am flight from Amsterdam just last month. We didn't have any luggage since it was already checked through from our flight the previous evening. We arrived at the airport around 515am and were at our gate by 530. We were flying KLM. If you are needing to check bags, I would allow at least an hour, you never know how long the lines will be. Security was very quick though. keep on cruising Posted July 20, 2005 #9 Share Posted July 20, 2005 We flew from Amsterdam airport last Friday (boy it seems a lot longer than that). I would definitely recommend arriving 3 hours before the flight. First the lines for checking luggage were very long, then there is another line for passport control, then a third line for security. Also KLM has a secondary screening process at the departure gate and they ask you to be at the gate about 90 minutes before the flight time. We arrived at the gate about 75 minutes before the flight and had to stand in our fourth line.
