Morning snorkel near Puerta Maya, Coz

Our ship arrives at 7am (local time) @ Puerta Maya ... but our excursion doesn't meet until 11am (local time) @ Punta Langosta.

Looking for a spot close to Puerta Maya were we could snorkel for 1-2 hours, bring our gear back to our room and then cab it downtown to meet the excursion. Second choice is a spot close to downtown where we could snorkel and then lug our gear on the excursion with us. I'd prefer to be able to walk to wherever we go, but am not opposed to a quick cab ride.

A search of the boards led me to La Palapita, Money Bar, Sunset Beach/Villablanca or Playa Barracuda/Sand Dollar Sports Beach as options. Sunset Beach has snuba, which hubby would like to try. Cozumel Insider has a note that Playa Barracuda/Sand Dollar "are used for large ship tours so don't be surprised in morning hours to find hundreds of people in this area. Be patient. Tour activity will wane around mid-day & the entire place will be yours for snorkeling afterward!!" ... maybe not a good choice for us.

Suggestions? Thanks!

Grab your gear and take a cab into town. You'll pass right by Margaritaville on your way to Punta Langosta and you can snorkel off their back deck. Although you might want to check - not sure when the restaurant opens and don't know if you could access the water to snorkel if its closed. I'm trying to remember what the shore line is like over there. You might just be able to get wet without going thru the restaurant. :)

You could also just ask your cab driver. He probably knows snorkel spots along the way. We've stayed at El Cantil, a condo building with snorkeling out back - maybe you could just stop there. That's along the way too.

Both El Cantil and Margaritaville are close enough to walk to Punta Langosta.
