Murgat Posted November 14, 2013 #26 Share Posted November 14, 2013 How far is the walk from the Russell to the point where you can walk onto the Harbour Bridge? Also, once you walk across the bridge, can you easily take a bus or ferry back? Walking the length of the bridge is probably close to my limit these days. The walk across the bridge is about a kilometre and in itself is not hard. There are steps at both ends If you walk from the Russell Hotel you will approach the Southern side of the bridge from the East. The walking distance is less than half a kilometre. Ask the concierge for directions. To quote from a Rocks Brochure "On the eastern side the entrance is on Cumberland St, Walk along Harrington St and follow the small, hardly noticeable signs past Susannah Place. You can also get the lift up to the Cahill Expressway from Circular Quay, and walk around in about 10 minutes. Don't follow the road signs or any roadway on to the Bridge. You may be intercepted by police before you meet a worse fate with the traffic. The entrance at the northern side is easy to find, about 30 m south of the Milsons Point Station. There is no way to access the bridge by foot without using stairs. There are many flights at Milsons Point and Cumberland St, and two flights from the Cahill down to the bridge platform." At the Northern Milsons Point end you can choose to take a train or the ferry, which is down the hill beside Luna Park - it's a nice walk. Ferries are less frequent than trains but IMO worth the wait. BTW You can get excellent views and photo opportunities of ships docked at the Overseas Passenger Terminal from the Cahill Express walkway. burm Posted November 14, 2013 #27 Share Posted November 14, 2013 Thank you very much for the kind of practical information that web sites never give. I especially enjoyed the advice about not following road signs. :D
