Fins rental on ship

Recommended Posts

You wouldn't rent them directly from the ship, but from the snorkel operator at the port of call. You would have to also rent a snorkel vest as they are mandatory at most places. The snorkel vest runs $6 each for the day and the fins would run about the same. Olympia Sports is having a clearance on their fins if you live in the Northeast. Otherwise, you can sometimes find them on E-Bay.

Have a great trip!

Thanks for the tips! There is a Olymic Sports store in our area.

Are you saying vests are required by local laws for both adults and children going into the water?

If you are going to go directly to a beach area and snorkel on your own you don't need a vest. However if you are going on a snorkeling tour through the cruise line or an outside source, all the ones I have ever been on in the Caribbean have required you to wear a vest but they will supply them for you. If you are headed to Cococay, Labadee, RCCL requires you wear a vest as well but you can get them while you are there, no need to purchase one.

Here are some tips - we've been outfitting snorkelers and divers in color and style for quite a while!

Make sure to protect your scalp, hair and skin while snorkeling. The sun is magnified in water and you're bobbing on the surface like a cork - easy to burn. You may also use some organic conditioner on your hair and contain it in a headcovering such as a ScubaDoRag. If your hair is long, you can put it in a ponytail and place in the SecretCompartment of the Patented hat.

Some destinations have thimble jellies or sea lice - not really painful but aggrevating small bumps that itch. They hang out at the surface and affect uncovered areas such as your neck. Some of my customers wear lightweight hoods - ScubaGoodHoods - to prevent this. In Cozumel it is usually in the spring - you may want to ask the shops for your destination if there is any such annual happenings in their waters.

As a precaution, visit a dive shop and buy some jelly fish sting medicine - makes a lot of difference if you need it.

With sand, sun and a life jacket, be sure to think about wearing a rash guard such as Shoods and Shoodn'ts.

And if you are wearing fins, you do not want to blister - wear some ScubaTubeSocks.
