lisap71 Posted November 25, 2013 Author #26 Share Posted November 25, 2013 Let me ask you a question. The people who have told you this... have they ever cruised? Lol I hope so!!!! I assume they have to make a comment like that. Again not that it really matters but I was curious
lisap71 Posted November 25, 2013 Author #27 Share Posted November 25, 2013 If it is just the two of you I don't think you need a family suiteI prefer aft to midship I also prefer forward to aft since I sailed in a PH suite in both That being said, you can go wrong no matter which you choose Enjoy!! What makes you like forward compared to AFT??? I would think u feel the movement more in fwd but I've never cruised so I don't know lol
sdmike Posted November 25, 2013 #28 Share Posted November 25, 2013 (edited) Average ages seems to vary by line. Just off the top of my head, I'd say Disney and Carnival are the youngest (30's maybe), NCL and RCCL probably in the 40's, and Princess & HAL probably 50+ Edited November 25, 2013 by sdmike
hattack Posted November 25, 2013 #29 Share Posted November 25, 2013 Better yet...how old are they and at what age do they consider is old in their eyes? The age range will very from week to week , length of cruise, ports, time of year...there is no longer a "broad brush" approach regarding demographic profiles about age I would strongly suggest to approach your cruise with the positive attitude that you will have the pleasure of enjoying new friends and adventures..but also be realistic there are "butt heads, of all ages" on any given cruise...just ignore them
triptolemus Posted November 25, 2013 #30 Share Posted November 25, 2013 Lol I hope so!!!! I assume they have to make a comment like that. Again not that it really matters but I was curious It happens all the time. People who have never cruised at the water cooler commenting on something they've never done. Fuddy-duddys, ya know..? Hey - most folks who have cruised a few times will tell you the demographics onboard a ship can vary across lines and itineraries. Little more laid back in Alaska in September than compared to say, the Caribbean during Spring Break. But most folks will also tell you that anyone with just a bit of an outgoing personality will have no problem finding a group of folks to hang with if they choose on any ship. There's a lot of people on board.
triptolemus Posted November 25, 2013 #31 Share Posted November 25, 2013 What makes you like forward compared to AFT??? I would think u feel the movement more in fwd but I've never cruised so I don't know lol A common answer about the aft is the sweeping views and the hypnotic wake of the boat - both the sound of it and just watching the pattern in the water for hours as you enjoy some cocktails and the company of your friends/loved ones. I didn't notice a terrible amount of movement in the aft last time I was there - no more than anywhere else on the ship.
sdmike Posted November 25, 2013 #32 Share Posted November 25, 2013 Deck 15 aft on Epic is Spice H20, which has some pretty loud parties. I think the general feeling is that decks 10-12 are better than other options in the aft. Lower you can get more vibration from the engines. Higher and you can get noise from the pool deck
DaisyGoldberg Posted November 25, 2013 #33 Share Posted November 25, 2013 (edited) I would start looking now -- those aft penthouses can be scooped up fast -- there aren't that many of them. It would not surprise me that a late season Bermuda cruise out would have an older crowd. Kids are back in school, after all. I also didn't know what I'd do with a butler, and the answer turned out to be "not much." However, other perks were invaluable, like priority disembarkation, priority passport control (we got to sit in a lounge and watch the line get longer and longer, then when the agents were ready, were escorted through an empty restaurant to go through a line just for us. I presume after we were done they opened that line to the rest of the passengers, but I would say it easily saved us an hour standing in line.) I assume on a Bermuda itinerary you'd get off the ship at the end and handle immigration that way, but for an itinerary that has a US stop before final disembarkation, the suite experience is excellent! Getting escorted to a priority tender could be super useful to maximize your time in port in Bermuda, especially if you privately book excursions. The "private" balcony is off to one side and of debatable value if there are plenty of seats available on the main floor, which has better visibility. However, if you arrive late to a show, the main floor is packed, and attendance in the "private" balcony is sparse, you can usually stake out a pretty good seat for yourself. The extra space, coffee maker in the room, floor to ceiling windows (SJ suite) and Cagneys were also great. I highly recommend it, but you will be spoiled :) Edited November 25, 2013 by DaisyGoldberg
VideoTech Posted November 25, 2013 #34 Share Posted November 25, 2013 (edited) What makes you like forward compared to AFT??? I would think u feel the movement more in fwd but I've never cruised so I don't know lol The forward suites are our favorites, and we've done both forward and aft. Reasons: 1. Most of the forward suites on the NCL ships have HUGE balconies. 2. The views from those balconies are incredible. You can stand there and forget you've even got a cruise ship behind you. 3. Prefer to see where we're going, rather than where we've been. 4. You can sit in the lounge chairs toward the back of the balcony and have a nice windbreak & sunbreak from the steel balcony rails around you, or move forward for a nice sunny seat. 5. No issues of noise or debris from the garden cafe that's usually above the aft suites. 6. Love watching the ship enter each port. Well...that's a few of the reasons...as far as the ship's movement is concerned, yes, you can feel the movement more at bow and stern of the ship. But we've never found it uncomfortable, even during a windy, high seas crossing to the Inside Passage. knittingpritty5 Posted November 26, 2013 #35 Share Posted November 26, 2013 I have never cruised, just booked our first NCL. I would prefer to hear from those who have cruised and what their experiences were, rather than from those who think they know but don't. I All I can imagine is feeling like I am in a large canoe. However we have an inside on deck 5 of Getaway and I have been told that I won't feel a thing! Hope this is true!

Everyone who responded in this particular thread I believe has cruised multiple times. Cruise Critic is full of posts from all sorts of cruisers on every ship in every cabin position. My first suggestion to you would be to start reading some of their reviews. My second suggestion would be to start your own thread rather than hijack lisap71's thread. lisap71 Posted November 26, 2013 Author #37 Share Posted November 26, 2013 Lol. I've been hijacked!!!! Haha. Awweeee well I think the responses I have received from you all have been so helpful!!! I cannot wait to get on this cruise. Unfortunately I have to book after the holidays, well because it's the holidays lol and I just can't swing it all until my bonus beginning of January!! Hopefully my penthouse AFT won't be sold out because I really don't want to spend the extra money, but if I have to, I have to!!
