Carnival Magic Tips

Just got off the Magic from T'giving cruise. These are just a few general notes, NOT my cruise report to come later.

1. Don't worry about your babies being 'banned' from the water park/pools. There were PLENTY of crawling babies and toddlers wearing swim diapers in those areas every day it was in use. I sat by the pool on all the sea days and never saw an employee say ANYTHING to the parents.

2. If you take an HDMI cable and your laptop, you can detach the cable from the back of the TV and use your HDMI cable to watch a movie from your laptop on the TV. Takes a little maneuvering but can be done.

3. You can order as many items off the MDR menu as you like. One night my son and I had SIX appetizers (they all sounded good!, plus they're usually only 5 bites each), 2 dinners and FOUR desserts.

4. If you order something in the MDR and don't like it, just order something else! They will cheerfully bring it to you. (if you want 4 lobster tails, they will bring that to you too!)

5. Take a lanyard to wear your S&S card on. Or go up to the casino right after you get on & get one of their lanyards. Go to Guest Services to get a hole punched in your card.

6. Tea & lemonade mixed together is GREAT!

7. You have to ask to have the in-room fridge unlocked but if you bring your own sodas you can unload the ship's items and put your own in there.

8. "Cruise Casual" dining means anything but cut-offs and bathing suits. Women in shorts are fine for dining. "Cruise Elegant" is about the same. We saw women in beach dresses and men in shorts and crew shirts on 'formal' night.

9. You can order room service items off the TV interactive menu.

10. There is NO 'line' for the elevators. Watch the floors on top of each elevator and go in front of the one that seems like it will reach your floor first and be headed whichever way you want to go. Seems like common sense but some people seem to miss the concept.

That's all I can think of now. The Magic is a beautiful ship and it's always being shined, polished, cleaned, or swept. We enjoyed it immensely.

I have to laugh at number 1 (maybe literally). I saw a woman undress her baby right next to the pool, and put a swimmie on him/her. I went and told a security guy, who followed me back to the pool. When he saw the mother and child, he turns to me and says, "It's ok, he's wearing a diaper."

I gave up. They don't know their own rules and regulations.

Cucina de Capitano is not very crowded during the day. Embarkation day, we went straight up after dropping off our luggage and had spaghetti and lasagna. CdC is on deck 11 right above the Lido Marketplace buffet

(goes for any ship)

On the first day, when elevators are clogged because they are moving luggage and people also have carry on luggage (so using elevators instead of stairs); sometimes, you have to "go up to go down", and "go down to go up."

What I mean is certain floors are popular on first day such as Lido and whatever floor embarkation is on and/or pursers desk. If you are trying to get on at that floor, or one of the ones after it (floors below lido or floors above pursers floor), you may be out of luck as the elevators are full. However, if you select "up" on the elevator while on the lido deck even though you want to go down, there are only a couple of floors above, so you can get on, ride it to the top, then ride it back down to the floor you want. Reverse goes for the lobbly floor.

We always try to walk down the stairs especially on first day (if no luggage) to relieve congestion for others. Also, when you are in the atrium elevator area where they have both normal elevators and the atrium glass elevators, they are on seperate controls so the up and down call buttons do not apply to all. Also, the tones (one ding or two dings) tells you if the elevator arriving is going up or going down (at least it used to)

Oh I forgot about that. When you go to a popular show where the Theater is packed and then everyone is waiting on the elevators at once, walk down to the floor below the theater's bottom floor. There will be NO ONE there & you can already be ON the elevator when it stops for the theater crowd!

And if the elevator IS overloaded, red lights will flash and it will not move until people get off.

Did you have ATD and if so what was the wait time. Last year for Thanksgiving we had ATD and we got there anytime around 6:30 and the line took about 25 minutes to get seated.

We are headed out for New years on magic and wanted to know if that has changed for the better or worse.

It was very unpredictable though. One day we'd go around 6 and the line was 50 ppl long. The next day we'd go @ 5 to be first in line, and there would be NO line @ 6PM. We just tried to be flexible and if the line was too long, we'd go hang out by the pool or go back to our cabin and see a movie first.

They WOULD open the MDR up before 5:45 most days though. On T'giving day they opened @ 5:15.

I laughed at #1 as well. Lots of little ones in the pools. I was really bothered by this on my Glory cruise last year because we had left our youngest at home because she wasn't fully potty trained and we didn't think it would be fair to have her sisters watch her swim. Yet both the glory and magic were full of swim diapers.

goes for any ship, but do NOT touch ANYTHING before eating. If you hold your fork with your right hand, use the right hand to handle buffet spoons and forks, salt/pepper shakers, ketchup, etc...

JoeTex....noticed that you cruised on the Costa Flavia......cruising on the Magic is quite different.....I cruised on the Flavia in August of 75...my first and the start of a life long love affair !!!!
