RCI turtle farm and sting ray excursion

I will be on Freedom of the Seas in May of 2014 with my husband and daughters, ages 21 and 25. We are looking at the RCI turtle farm and sting ray excursion.

I have had a few people state that we should do these on our own. We swim, but we are not the best swimmers overall. The area that RCI takes us to is fairly shallow, and I understand they give life jackets. This certainly makes me feel better, but I don't know if the time allotment is sufficient.

Has anyone else done this excursion, or do you recommend another one?
