Beaches in Katakolon

Recommended Posts

Stopping in Katakolon on a cruise in August and not much interested in the Olympic site. Is there anything else to do such as shop at the port (not sure if it is built up or not) or are there any nice beaches that you could swim/sun bathe at that are either walking distance or a short cab ride away?

Any info would be much appreciated.

Katakolon is a lovely, but tiny Greek town. There are some nice bars and restaurants, but only one or two but they are nicely positioned on the water's edge. There are a few shops also but nowhere for BIG shopping. This is one port where you dock right in the town - you can walk to the centre in a couple of minutes. As you come off the ship turn right for the shops/town centre or turn left for the beach. The beach is about 5 minutes walk, past some local houses. The sand is gritty and it isn't the best beach we have visited but there are a few umbrellas which are free. The water is clean and is fine for a quick swim.

We like Katakolon very much. You can have real Greek coffee and food and buy some nice souvenirs. There is a good atmosphere but as I say you will be able to walk around the entire town in a few minutes as it is so small.
