JEBSON Posted January 13, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 13, 2014 Are cabs easily available mid-afternoon at Orient Beach for return to the ship? How long is the trip back during mid-afternoon with 3 ships in port?
realbikerspedal Posted January 13, 2014 #2 Share Posted January 13, 2014 I don't know about cabs being available as we made arrangements with our cabbie that dropped us off to be back at a certain time to pick us up. He was right on time as he didn't want to lose the sure income.
captain bob Posted January 14, 2014 #3 Share Posted January 14, 2014 Plenty of cabs waiting for the return trips at Pedros. Takes about a half hour, but always allow 1.5 hours to sailway time in case of an accident and a road closure.

You will not have more than a few minutes wait at the most to get back from Orient Beach in the mid-afternoon. 25 minutes should get you back to port but leave an extra 20-30 minutes just in case of unforeseen problems. cincycruisincouple Posted January 14, 2014 #5 Share Posted January 14, 2014 We had a cab driver hanging out Club Orient, and when we got up to change he offered to take us back at a cheaper rate than what we paid at the pier to get there.
gtaylor Posted January 15, 2014 #6 Share Posted January 15, 2014 Taxis are readily available at Orient, especially as it gets close to 'back to the ship' time, when drivers might even be walking the beach soliciting passengers. If you just walk up to the taxi area you'll probably be seated in a taxi to wait for it to fill, (for the reduced rate), but my friend Ottis Hughes, President of the Dutch St. Maarten Taxi Association, tells me that their official policy is "as the guest ready, next taxi leaves", so you should be able to pay the higher price, for a couple, for example, and depart immediately. I would never arrange for a pickup time with the driver that delivered me to a beach like Orient or Maho, as taxis are readily available, and I might decide that I wanted to stay for a shorter (not likely) or longer time at the beach. gary
Feelin' Nauti' Posted January 15, 2014 #7 Share Posted January 15, 2014 You won't find it difficult to get a cab... plenty are waiting. You can ask your driver if he's willing to pick you up at a certain time
