WAMomzart Posted January 15, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 15, 2014 We are going on the Carnival Dream in Feb, and my daughter has a peanut allergy. Surely, there are many others with food allergies/sensitivities, so how do they deal with this? thanks
MISSSNOOPYGIRL Posted January 15, 2014 #2 Share Posted January 15, 2014 I'm interested in the replies as well. My son has nut, fish, and peanut allergies and I don't know if I would ever cruise with him- too nervewracking!
lilmizz Posted January 15, 2014 #3 Share Posted January 15, 2014 My DSL has peanut allergy's also. I guess we will just let them know in the MDR about this. Im not for sure about the buffet tho? Caronrick Posted January 15, 2014 #4 Share Posted January 15, 2014 I have seafood allergies and my son has peanut allergies. The only place they can ensure no cross contamination is in the MDR. This is because passengers with special needs (allergies, diabtic, etc..) will have their foos prepared in a kitchen area away fromt he other passenger meals. Obviously in the buffet is it a little more sporty to get the food that is safe but it is do-able for us since it is just peanuts and not all nuts but for those with more restrictions you may have a rough time without prior coordination. Speaking of... you can email CCL prior to cruise (specialneeds@carnival.com) informing them of your restrictions and you MUST talk to your dining room maitre d' on board during embarkation day to ensure that your individual needs are met. SadieN Posted January 15, 2014 #5 Share Posted January 15, 2014 DD has a peanut and treenut allergy. See the Maitre 'D at embarkation (around 1pm) A hostess will take you order for the next day. Order what looks good. Our DD didn't like the attention that the hostess provided, so for many cruises she ordered with us. We knew what she could and couldn't have. Very few things on the menu have nuts in them. The duck appetizer on the being-phased-out menu has nuts. The buffet is a bit of a nightmare because of cross-contimination. Most things with nuts are evident. A few cakes have small nuts in them. Carnival is beginning to label items. Ask the Lido chef about any concerns you may have. Confirm the ingredients in the Mongolian Wok. The pans get a swish between servings and the lids don't get washed. The kids clubs have an allergy form to fill out. Unless it's changed peanuts need to be written in. She never had a problem eating in the clubs because the snacks offered were of the potato chips and pretzel variety. Other foods are the same stuff on the kids menus- tenders, pizza, etc. When the camp eats dinner in the buffet it is apart from the regular buffet. Room service is usually OK. The to-die-for chocolate cake usually has a sprinkling of nuts on it.
