Mullet Bay

Is that near Mullet?

Maho is the beach before Mullet. You can walk to Maho from Mullet within 15 minutes. Many folks use this beach combination. Mullet is a very nice beach and you can easily spend the whole day there if you like.

If you walk to Back Street downtown (easy walk from the port) you can take a public bus/minivan for $2. Just flag one down when you see a sign in the windshield that says Maho or Mullet Bay.

Do you know how long the bus ride is? If we chose to do a cab, do you know how much those run to Mullet Bay?

There is little scheduled public transportation from Mullet back to the port. The buses may not come by when you need them. Keep that in mind when planning your return. To be certain, you either need to rent a car, arrange for a taxi, or hoof it over to Maho, which can be a trek. I've never done it myself. We always rented a car.

My wife stayed on-ship to avoid the disease-carrying mosquitoes--they really do love her!

Walked to town, finally figured out what was Back Street (I never did see a sign). A rattletrap white van came by almost immediately with a MAHO MULL sign, so I flagged it down and hopped in. Took maybe 40 minutes to get to Mullet Bay pullout. All the locals had already hopped in and hopped out. They took the local route, not the new causeway.

Mullet Bay was nice but crowded. Food and drink available, plus a portapotty. Only one topless, guarded by her bulldog husband. ;)

Walk back to Maho was short and pleasant. A golf fairway and a shopping area. Maho was a zoo. Couldn't get into Sunset Grill for a drink. No topless. A couple light planes were interesting, but a big jet was really cool! Those people are nuts!

There were many taxis competing to take you back to town or ship from Sunset Grill. I joined a full van with AC and had a pleasant ride back. He also took the local route, not the new causeway. Gave the driver 10 bucks at the cruise terminal.

All in all, a great day.

So good to hear that Mullet beach was "crowded" and Maho was a "zoo" that means that it's business as usual in St. Maarten just like Gary reported from Joyce Prince a couple of weeks ago.

We saw so many buses on our way up to Mullet driving back to Phillipsburg. At both Phillipsburg and Mullet, we waited no longer than 5 minutes for one to come by. The ride was about 30-40 minutes, but it will be just as long with a taxi, since it's a one-lane road to get there.

Your experience may be different and it's possible they've changed the schedules since I was there in 2012. However, we spent a full week there and I never saw one bus stop at Mullet. I'm not saying they don't stop, but that's not been my experience. Maho on the other hand is very busy with plenty of transportation.

Sorry, I should clarify. The bus dropped us off at Mullet (just tell the driver that's where you're going and he'll drive you there), and to get back we walked into town (Maho) and caught the bus across the street from the casino. It was a 5 minute walk to town, so no big deal for us.

Just for those that have heard the term the" Maho entertainment district" this is what the poster means by Maho "town". It is a street essentially with hotels, shops, casino(s?) and restaurants and it is the main road that takes you from Maho beach to Mullet Bay beach. Hope that helps to clear things up.

Do you remember the name of the casino? Was it Casino Royale? I think that this is the casino very near to Maho Beach.
