Carnival Magic - Cove Balcony Room 2338

Here are some pictures of our first cove balcony ever. Room 2338 is right by the elevators. It was very quiet in our room. We heard some noise overhead at night - but it was always over by about 11:30ish. Many times, we had just got back to our room by then anyway. We heard more noise from people being noisy going up and down the hallway - which had nothing to do with the room.

It was convenient to the Southern Lights dining room - which was 1 floor up. We were in the middle, so we could go either way on our floor to go to front or back elevators. We never had much trouble getting an elevator.

I thought the room might be a tad smaller than our Deck 7 balcony was last year. Our bathroom seemed just a little smaller, but it wasn't inconveniently so. Our room might have been a little bit smaller too. This might be due to the fact that the balcony is pulled inside the ship, and doesn't jut out. But, with just the two of us, the room was just fine. We never felt cramped.

It was awesome to be that close to the water. However, the only sea life we saw were some dolphins, but they were more towards the front of the ship. It was interesting in port, because we were closer to the port action.

How nice! We've never tried a cove balcony. I think we'll look into it.

We discovered the cove balcony is a little cheaper than other balcony's. They are only located on the 2nd floor - and only on the Dream, Magic & Breeze. They are the rooms right under the lifeboats. They have a steel door that can be closed in case of high or really rough seas. The staff can come through on the balcony's & close all of those doors (they don't enter your room to do so).

This is what it looks like if the door is closed. You still have an ocean view room. Our door was closed just for a short time one day because they were going to clean the balcony. I think it was our last sea day.

Here is what a cove balcony looks like from the outside. We were docked at Cozumel when I took this picture. The people in the picture are in a cove balcony room - right under the lifeboats. Deck 1 would be below - with the port holes & ocean view windows. But, this picture gives you a good idea how close you are to the port when you are docked. They say the coves are about 30' above the water.

Thank you for sharing!! My husband really wanted to get a cove balcony but Im a little paranoid about being that close to the water. Did it seem like you had a lot of movement from the ship in that stateroom?? I was thinking that it would be less than having a stateroom on a higher deck.

It's "close" to the water, but its not so close that you feel threatened. Since we were in the middle, the front of the ship catches most of the bigger waves if the waves are a little high. A few days we did have some big swells & we could see up in front us from the our balcony & those waves were shooting pretty high - like up towards the lifeboats. However, we were in the middle, and they never got even close to us. So, I would say get a middle of the ship cabin, and stay away from the front of the ship to stay out of the wake from the bow. Also, pay attention to what is above you on deck 3. I've heard some people say they get noise from above in some of the cabins, so you would need to be aware of what is above you. We were right on the edge of the galley - and never heard any noise late at night.

We had a few rocky days (maybe 6' swells) that bumped us around a little, but we felt them most in the upper decks while at dinner, the theater or in the stores & casino. In our room, we felt a little rocking, but I've been at the front of the boat in a cabin before w/much more rocking going on. So, I would say where we were, the rocking was at a minimum on the bumpier days. On normal seas - barely any movement was detected.

We are booked in Cabin 2337 sailing in 20days. This will be out 2nd time in a cove balcony.

Last time we were in cabin 2431 which was right below the galley..and every morning REAL early we were awoke with lots of clanking pots and pans, carts being moved around..It was pretty bad.

So this time I was more aware of exactly what is above us. From the cruise room boards I see that we are just below the dining room as you stated.

We absolutely love the cove though, nice to be so close to the water, and the price was good as well. I like being so close to the center of everything, from my calculations..and the elevator being right by the room, its a simple up a few floors to the casino, pool and all the fun.
