Alaska cruise

Last year we took the transfer to the Anchorage airport and rented a car for the day. We drove up north of Anchorage and visited the Iditarod Headquarters in Wasilla and then over to Palmer to see a Reindeer farm (not impressed with it though).

Go to the Anchorage tourism website and see what interests you.

If you book your transfer through NCL make sure you tell them you have an early flight (even though you do not) and they will get you off the ship first and on your way.

There is also a tour company, I think it is called Alaska transport or something, that does a tour that leaves the dock and takes you to several places before it drops you and your luggage off at the airport. I do however think it is only 4 hours

We booked a bus transfer to Anchorage airport. From there we rented a car.

If it's sunny and fairly clear out a trip to Flattop is amazing! It's a great look out point where you can see Anchorage and the water and the mountains. You can hike to the top of the hill or you can just wander around where the car park is at. It was a stunning view and a great place to get a little exercise before the long plane ride home.

Also fun was the wild animal park outside of Anchorage.

Downtown is small, but interesting. The museum in Anchorage was great for a few hours, especially if the weather isn't great.

If you like flowers they have a lovely botanical garden as well. It only takes a few hours and part of the trails around the botanical garden are part of the Iditarod trail.

There is Earthquake park which has a nice view of Anchorage over the water and interesting info on the earthquake that happened there.

I would look on Trip Advisor and research Anchorage. That's where we found most of the info we used and we visited Anchorage for a few days.

We rented a car in Whittier and enjoyed taking a slow drive to Anchorage, making lots of stops along the way to sightsee and hike. We were able to make more, and longer stops than the shuttle busses do, and we already had a car to use in Anchorage when we got there. There's a hefty fee for the one-way rental, but it still cost us less than the shuttle alone would have been for our party of four.

There is only one car rental company in Whittier (think it was Avis) and apparently they book up early, so if you decide to do this, reserve your car as soon as you can.
