check in Mumbai airport?

I will be flying from Chennai to Mumbai to get my AF flight home to LAX. The latest Jet Airways flight (which I have not yet booked) gets me to Mumbai at 5 pm ( there is one a bit later but it is the last flight of the day so not in my comfort zone) and my AF flight (which IS booked) does not leave until 2:40 am. I am not interested in touring Mumbai as we will have been there the previous week for several days. I was thinking I would just hang out in the AF lounge but now I am wondering if AF will let me check in and check my bags that much ahead of flight time. Anybody know?

 

If not, anybody know of any airport attached hotels where we could kill the time?

I used to fly back from BOM regularly and all international airlines used to open up check-in anything up to six hours before departure and certainly five hours.

 

As for hotels to hang out at, the best by far and the closest would be the Leela which is only five minutes from the airport on a shuttle bus. It has a lovely pool, several different restaurants, a few shops in the basement and a very nice lounge area where you can be served tea and coffee.
