jspen Posted February 18, 2014 #1 Share Posted February 18, 2014 Looking for a good cabin on Emerald Deck, received a BW guarantee cabin of E611 but someone indicted there are double decker lifeboats aft that would really block view. Anyone stay on E611, 606 504 or 525, those are my midship choices to change. If not, how difficulty is it to pay for an upgrade? Thanks for all input, appreciate it! :)
HleeCruiser Posted February 18, 2014 #2 Share Posted February 18, 2014 What you get on Emerald deck is a crap shoot. I would upgrade if possible.

NeurosurgeryNP Posted February 19, 2014 #4 Share Posted February 19, 2014 (edited) We booked a BZ and ended up with E611 on the March 9th sailing. I've tried to move based on similar comments but with no luck. If were going before you I can certainly post pictures if that helps. Graham We are sailing 3/2 and our TA called this afternoon as a Princess rep called and wanted to move us to that cabin (E611) from E310 (which is between lifeboats). We declined. Another passenger wanted to move due to walking issues. We really wanted to help, but we want to enjoy what little balcony we will have with E310 (which is in between and will have davits, rather than the lifeboat right on front of us as in the deck plans). We use our balcony a lot. We initially booked a BZ - and those cabins are unobstructed - go figure. Sometimes the "upgrade" isn't so Up. Astro Flyer Posted February 19, 2014 #5 Share Posted February 19, 2014 Based on the deck plan E504 will accommodate third and fourth person however when an upper berth is in use the balcony door is blocked. This photo is from our D508 cabin looking down at the obstruction in front of E508. The lifeboat stanchion to the right seems to indicate there's a lifeboat in front of E504 which would be 2 cabins to the right of this view. jspen Posted February 19, 2014 Author #6 Share Posted February 19, 2014 (edited) Thanks for the feedback and photo!!! E611 just seems to be a bad cabin with the larger size lifeboats, and now I hear soot is a problem in aft cabins, made the move to E504, has to be better. Not sure with the low fare I paid if I could upgrade, but happy to be out of E611... Word is to avoid all E600+ cabins. How was E310? Noise or smoke from Casino/bars below? E312 was open but a little far forward for my liking... Hopefully E504 is good, but don't plan on much cabin time anyway, need to get out and explore this beautiful ship! CruiseWookiee Posted February 19, 2014 #8 Share Posted February 19, 2014 Lots of pictures of OV cabins on this thread.. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1808632&page=
CruiseWookiee Posted February 19, 2014 #9 Share Posted February 19, 2014 The deck plan posted on Princess.com is pretty good. It shows you where the life boats and tenders are located relative to the cabin numbers. You can see that the rear three boats on the starboard side and the rear two on the port side have a different shape. Those are the tenders. Beware of any cabins located between those arrows... jspen Posted February 19, 2014 Author #10 Share Posted February 19, 2014 Great information and photos, very helpful, thanks for posting! Those tenders do look like they come up higher and are more of an obstruction than the lifeboats. Glad to be away from them!
TLC535 Posted February 19, 2014 #11 Share Posted February 19, 2014 We stayed in E504 on the Royal for the maiden TA in October & had no issues...the lifeboat comes up to just below the top of the railing of the balcony...no obstructed view looking out but if you want to look straight down to the sea...all you will see is lifeboat ;) it was all good for us :D
jspen Posted February 19, 2014 Author #12 Share Posted February 19, 2014 Appreciate the info, sounds fine, I am a camera buff so as long as I can get some beautiful shots of the horizon, shoreline, off the balcony, etc, never much cared for shooting straight down anyway LOL... Glad my TA did not give me a hassle on switching from E611 to E504... Thanks again!
tedibearboo Posted March 18, 2015 #13 Share Posted March 18, 2015 A little disappointed. We booked E625 with the understanding that it had a partially obstructed view to knee height. Looks like obstruction is the height of the railing. Should have known when our TA said "it's the last one, better grab it before it's gone". Guess we'll have to go top-side arriving/departing Ports of Call as I'm a photography buff. First time we've been booked in a cabin with an obstructed view. We live and learn
TLC535 Posted March 18, 2015 #14 Share Posted March 18, 2015 When choosing an "obstructed" cabin it is always a good idea to check out Renmar site to see if he has a photo of the cabin you are looking at. ;) He has done a great job of keeping us informed :) https://sites.google.com/site/cabinviewbyrenmar/home
tedibearboo Posted March 19, 2015 #15 Share Posted March 19, 2015 Thanks Terri! After a lot of digging around we called our TA and she was able to secure A630 on the Aloha Deck for an extra $100 so we're dancing the Happy Dance. It even came as a surprise to our TA who was told the obstruction came to knee height. After sending her the pics posted by another CC Member she said she'd keep it on file for future reference.
